Syracuse and Rutgers will square off in a rivalry which has heated up in recent years. Culminating with the double overtime heart breaking Antwan fumble that ended the game and hurt the spirit of Cuse fans and in hindsight could have lead to a 6-1 start where it could have lead them to play one damn good season. However this weekend is very different, Rutgers (5-0) is number 21 in the nation coming in with a head of steam after a good (not great) win over uconn, while Syracuse (2-3) is ranked numb er one in our hearts and comes in after a monumental defensive victory where we saw glimpses of that 2010 defense that made Scott Schafer his million(s).
So Saturday is less then 6 days away and Syracuse is once again going to be without Jeremiah Kobena and now Shamarko Thomas, meaning they will need everyone to contribute the second most they possibly can (I want the most reserved for Louisville.) and the defense will need to play exactly like they did Friday. Gary nova isn't as mobile as Tino so those holes he was getting through will not be as big a problem as the Pitt game. However I feel Juwan Jamison is a better runner then graham this year, he doesn't have the experience that graham does but he does know how to find a hole and explode through it, holding him under 100 yards is a win in my book.
Enough about the defense lets talk offensive keys, the most pivotal part of Saturday will be to SCORE, Rutgers' highest scoring game was a shootout with Arkansas who up until auburn couldn't tell a ball from a bomb. So we need to score fast and early, none of the power running out of the shotty use tank or you don't run until the pass is established. Rutgers D is good, but by no means is great, there are ways to exploide it just like any other defense and I have faith that Marrone can find it and Hackett can call plays that allow Nassib to produce. Lastly we need Ashton broyld to work his butt off in practice so he gets some game time back. That kid is too freaking talented to be sitting on the bench when the teams offense sputtering. Marrone he's a great kid with allota passion let him play.
So finally in my mind this game is winnable if Cuse plays one of their better games of the season. Rutgers has a good d and weak o, take advantage of that sell out some blitzes and some suprise double converges on the outside, some turnovers deep in rutgers territory could go a mile. And of course play for Mr. Thomas. He plays his heart out every down we need to win for him because I guarantee you if he doesn't play he would have tried every possible way to get on the field.
