The No. 1 Syracuse Orange field hockey team went 2-0 this weekend. Ho-hum.
On Friday, three different scorers powered the Orange in a 3-0 win vs. No. 25 Louisville. They followed that up Sunday with a 5-0 drubbing of Yale, led by Liz McInerney, who scored a goal and assisted on two others.
"Our press was better, the forward line through the midfield, so the defense had a lot less to do," McInerney said. "Another shutout, so we can’t complain. Today was much better."
Another shutout indeed. The Orange have now played four-straight shutouts and haven't been scored on since a 7-1 win over Kent St. on September 16. The team now has seven shutouts on the year and has given up six goals total.
Syracuse is now 11-0 for only the second time in program history. The only other season was the fabled 2008 season which began 14-0 and ended with a Final Four appearance.
Up next, a Saturday showdown at Providence, the first of four-straight road games that will test the No. 1 team in the nation and prepare them for what's to come.
