Syracuse Orange Remain No. 1 In AP Poll, Coaches Poll, All The Polls

Syracuse remained on top of The AP poll for the fifth straight week. They received 60 first-place votes from the 65 available. Kentucky, which got the other No. 1 votes, North Carolina and Baylor remained second through fourth. Ohio State moved up to fifth.

Because I know you're wondering, Ron Morris indeed kept Syracuse at No. 4 this week. Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't drop us to fifth (Full AP voters list here).

In the Coaches Poll, the Orange kept pace at No. 1 with 30 of the 31 first-place votes. Kentucky received the lone other vote. North Carolina, Baylor and OSU round out the top-five.

Big East schools in the rankings include Georgetown (11/11), Louisville (14/15), UConn (17/16), Marquette (25/24) and Seton Hall (24/UNR). That's right, despite the fact that they're 14-2, have an RPI of 3 and own recent wins over UConn and West Virginia, the coaches didn't think the Hall was rank-worthy. Good work, guys.

According to Real Time RPI, Syracuse is not only No. 1 but their schedule is No. 1 in the S.O.S. rankings. Four of the five top SOS rankings are Big East schools.

Sagarin has the Orange at No. 1 with a 93.69 score. They're followed by Kentucky, Ohio State, Indiana and Michigan State.

The Massey Ratings have the Orange at No. 1 overall, followed by Kentucky, Baylor, OSU and Indiana.

SB Nation released it's first bracket of the year and Syracuse is the No. 1 seed in the East. Bring it, Long Island.

Ron Morris is still unranked.

Ron Morris is

simply the worse voter in the AP. It’s not only Syracuse at #4, it’s Florida, off a loss to Tenn this week after a loss to Rutgers, dropping only from 10 to 11. It’s Wisconsin at #17 and Miss St at #13. This guy does not watch college basketball.

by kd bart on Jan 9, 2012 1:34 PM EST reply actions

the great thing is

he openly admits to not watching the games. Which, by the way, you don’t even need to do in order to properly rank a 17-0 team with #1 RPI and #1 SOS.

At a certain point the problem isn’t with him anymore. If a 4-year-old were allowed to cast a vote, I wouldn’t blame the kid for doing it.

Worst Voter in College BBall

Just checked out Sean’s helpful link to Pollstalker. According to survey respondents, a whopping 85 people believe Ron Morris is the WORST voter in the AP poll. Only 1 person – probably himself or a deranged Ohio State fan – feels he’s the best.

I think that 85 people is not enough. We should get everyone to answer the survey in the negative.

501 Bad to 5 good (updated)

As bad as his ballot is, how can 5 people seriously rate him as the best ballot? I’m not even talking about Syracuse, his rankings are completely whacked.

by orangetundra on Jan 9, 2012 4:55 PM EST up reply actions

His ballot this week is one of the worst ever

Wisconsin 17 when most people dropped them off? Florida 11 after losses to Rutgers and Tennessee? Murray 24? UConn Top 10 after 2 losses when you know SU is going to be 15 or lower (on his ballot) after their first loss. This guy is a total joke and is more reason why they should just get rid of the polls altogether. I think he does it on purpose to show how stupid the process is. That or he just likes to show how stupid he is.

BTW: 648-9 votes his the worse ballot. How 9 people find this the best ballot tells me he has exactly 9 friends in life.

What's the longest SU has been ranked #1 for, anyone know?

I’m sure by the time I wrote this Google would have told me by now….And of course from April 2003 to September 2004 doesn’t count……

Not long

This is only the 4th season we’ve held a #1 ranking. In two of those cases, we lost the following week. During the ‘89-’90 season we were ranked for 6 consecutive weeks. So this would make the 5th straight week we’ve been #1.

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

RON MORRIS votes uconn #7 in the AP?

facepalm

You keep chanting one more year, I thought college was four years

Im curious

if he gets the invite to vote next year.

Of course, on the flip side – it would be interesting if he predicted more accurately our rankings at the end of conference play. Then we might have to call him a witch, and burn him at the stake?

At this point though, and with the other teams records, I dont even see how 1 loss would immediately drop up out of the #1 spot, especially if it was another ranked team.

Kentucky has their cream puffy SEC schedule left, so Im not sure how many more they are going to drop this year.

I thought about him going for EOY rankings too

But that’s not really what it’s supposed to be about, right? He’s not filling out a bracket of predictions, he should be calling it week by week. Teams will get better, but it’s not known which, so you have to call it as it stands currently. Right?

In developing news:

Ron Morris votes the kid from “Mask” as sexiest male of the year, just ahead of co-star Cher and Brad Pitt.

SHASHASHAA!!!

according to the SBNation brackets

SU is currently 6-0 against the field (Hall, Marq, Florida, Stanford, Marshall, Bucknell). But of course they don’t play anybody.

They’re 7-0 against Lunardi’s bracket (which includes VPI in the play-in game).

Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip

Ron Morris has Indiana at 16....

Hopefully he gets his voting rights stripped, since him voting on the AP is like me voting for American Idol winner after watching one episode

That implies

you’ve watched an episode. That’d make you more qualified than Mr Morris.

It's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.
