Winning on the road in Conf is difficult / SU has no difficult road games

http://espn.go.com/ncb/notebook/_/page/notebookweeklywatch1205/week-5

3. Winning on the road in conference play is just plain hard. Indiana was lucky to escape Penn State with a win Sunday afternoon. This weekend, many of their ranked comrades were far less fortunate. Florida lost at Tennessee. Duke barely survived an upset at the hands of Georgia Tech. Missouri got housed in the Octagon of Doom. Georgetown, a tough road team with wins at Louisville and Alabama, fell at West Virginia. Mississippi State gave up 98 points at Arkansas. UConn lost at Rutgers. The list goes on and on.

5. Syracuse just keeps on winning, too. The balance of the Orange's schedule set up very nicely these first few months, transitioning from an almost entirely home-oriented non-conference schedule to a first month of Big East play that includes no truly frightening road games.

so from point 3 , I get the point that all conference road games are hard. For example - Duke barely beat GT, a team who had, I think, exactly one conf. win all of last year, Winning conference road games sure is hard! Until I get to point 5, where its made clear to me that SU has no truly frightening road games....

At UConn

Gameday will be there, so that’s gonna be a crazy atmosphere for them, and their freshman will have most of a full big east season under their belts by then.

@ L'Ville and ND

Cuse always struggles at L’Ville. And ND is a Saturday night game, and the arena is a hornet’s nest. Those are two very, very difficult games…

higher standard

I really don’t get why we are held to a higher standard than any of the other big time programs in college basketball. It is a joke as to what some “experts” say about is then go on to make a completely different opinion if it’s Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc. It drives me crazy every single year.

To Be Fair

The Big East is a joke of a basketball conference…wait, what? One of the best in the country? It’s not like that Providence crowd or NC State crowd were loud or added anything to the road experience…wait, they were true road games in a loud atmosphere? Those don’t count though because SU had fans in the stands as well even though they won convincing both games.

Look, I understand SU plays preseason games at the Dome. I get that they play smaller schools and especially against former players/coaches. The problem is that even when SU schedules against Florida or NC State in their area, it is a neutral game but MSG is a home game (even though I am 39, grew up in Syracuse and the only time I have been in NYC is passing through the airport or bus station). It is sad that even when they do try to schedule legit challenges, they are always downplayed. You really think playing at Colgate would solve any issues? I sure don’t other than the place could’t hold the attendence it could in the Dome.

It's Funny

How far off-base everyone at the WWL is with their messaging of late. During the Marquette game, we were informed that road losses don’t count in conference play, yet the same network calls us out for “not playing on the road.” The same people who praise Michigan for losing at Indiana will probably throw us under the bus for losing at UConn (hypothetical).

Remember when news outlets used to report news?

Wait

we’re going to lose at UConn??? This would be news to me.

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

that's what was so odd about the article

the fact that the author contradicted himself within the same article, literally from one paragraph to the next. Lot’s of teams got challenged on the road, so the author inferred that its hard to win on the road. But SU’s road schedule is somehow easy.

I dunno maybe we should take that as a compliment – SU is the only team w/ an easy raod schedule b/c SU is such a great team…
