Syracuse Football: Alec Lemon, Keon Lyn Will Miss Spring Practice After Surgery
The Syracuse Orange 2012 football season is shaping up to be the most terrifying of the Doug Marrone Era. And we're barely into January.
We already knew that Keon Lyn was going to miss some time due to surgery but now SU Athletics informs us that our No. 1 receiver, Sir Alec Lemon, will do the same. Both will miss spring practice and there's no guarantee either will be good to go for the regular season. Which is fantastic.
A news release issued by SU early Thursday evening said each surgery was successful, although a source said Lemon’s surgery was more extensive and has the potential to sideline him for the 2012 season. That will depend on how well his rehabilitation goes. The release noted only that each player would be evaluated throughout the rehab process and his status announced prior to the start of preseason camp.
Silver linings? One, thank God #Shamarko Thomas and Marcus Sales (theoretically) are coming back. We have enough talent to replace and/or worry about replacing at both positions.
Lemon broke the single-season record of receptions with 68 this year and is on the verge of obliterating the career records...if he plays...this season. Jarrod West, Kyle Foster and Keenan Hale...time to Step Up 2 Da Streetz.
Lyn spent most of the season playing through shoulder pain and missed the Pittsburgh game due to a suspension, leading to speculation he might leave SU. According to his Twitterfeed, he considered it but decided to stay. Ri’Shard Anderson, Brandon Reddish and Jeremi Wilkes should see time at CB while Lyn is out.

I'm drunk on basketball
Any injury…ho hum. Dougie will figure it out. C’ya in the fall.
Big hopes for Reddish
I think the full year in the system with spring practice and all the conditioning bring Reddish to the top of the DB pool. The kid has great skills, he was just way in over his head this year. It is too bad he had to burn his redshirt.
Silver lining
The only one I can think of is that maybe this will force the offense to have to think more outside the box. If we couldn’t score in drop back mode with Lemon, the concern about not having him next year could cause some to rethink whether our offense needs to be more dynamic.
There is a lot of luck in life though. MSU plays a drop back QB system. Their Senior QB throws an interception in the first overtime. But then Georgia decides that a 40+ yard FG from their mediocre kicker makes more sense than trying to score a TD or move closer. Missed FG, MSU later wins. On the other hand, the lesson from MSU-Georgia is that wimp coaches ultimately lose.

Im somewhat in agreement with that
They are going to have a green, green team this coming year with nothing to lose and everything to prove. There is no more need for a conservative offense when it obviously didnt win us games with more talented/experienced players. They have lost a ton of both offense and defense through the draft, attrition and graduation.
So, we’ve got Nassib coming back and then…..its all new kids from the looks of it.
Whats the deal with the coaches being let go?
Wasnt there a couple coaches that were going to be let go? Was that all BS?
I am kind of hoping he could bring in someone with more experience than Hackett, who while not a bad guy isnt quite a OC yet.
I feel like we need a new OC and a REAL special teams coach
our special teams are a joke and “by committee” never works out for the best for anyone.
I think we all need to get together
and reach a group decision as to whether a “by committee” system works or not.

On Hackett, given his lack of experience, I bet Marrone is approving game plans, or at least closely looking over Hackett’s shoulder, and this is one of the reasons he will be around for next season. The other reason I would say is that Marrone doesn’t want to give Nassib a new offense to become familiar with for his last season. If we have a repeat of this season, there will be a new coordinator to go with the new quarterback.
Juice reported that Conley and Brumbaugh were out
they said that their contracts were not renewed, so when Marrone said they were “still under contract,” he wasn’t lying because their contracts were still good through the end of the year.
However, both are still listed on SUA, so, as far as I can tell, they’re still there.

Any idea why he had surgery? Not sure what his Twitter comment means:
