Where Are We Watching: Syracuse vs. West Virginia

The No. 3 Syracuse Orange basketball team welcomes the West Virginia Mountaineers to the Carrier Dome at 1 p.m. ET Saturday. It sounds like Fabricio Melo will miss his third-consecutive game so it's going to be Rakeem Christmas Time again.

The game will be televised on ESPNU, so get on that.

Check the list below to see where Syracuse fans are gathering in your neighborhood and let me know anything needs to be changed, updated or added.

Heads up, Buffalo folks. The Buffalo/Western New York Syracuse Alumni Club is meeting exclusively at Brick House Tavern, so stick to that.

Use Foursquare? The Syracuse University iSchool has taken the official alumni spots below and compiled a handy list of spots in your city. Check in when you get there and find just one more way to prove you're a better Syracuse Orange fan than the one next to you.

Somebody

needs to provide a new Rochester bar. Everyone complains about it but I never hear about an alternative.

I went to Shooter's in Fairport

for the last game and I’ll vouch for it. It was not a lively crowd, nor were there a GREAT number of SU fans, but they at least turned the sound on and the food was decent.

I mostly live in Syracuse so I am obviously not the best source but for what it’s worth, my company’s based in Rochester and not even the Syracuse alumni there really know of any place in the city to catch the game.

It's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

Concur

I went to school there for four years and watched games at home.

There's a Tully's

on Jefferson Road in Henrietta. Been there once on my way through Rochester. No idea what the game atmosphere is like, but I’m sure the game would be on at least on TV there and you can get some of best Chicken Tenders on earth to eat while watching.

I saw early round NCAA games at Sports Page once

They had a pretty lively SU crowd. But it was just the one time I did that, so I don’t know what anyone else’s experiences have been like. I usually just watch games at home.

I see Noonans in listed for Fairport

I know they haven’t been open long. I drive by there every night maybe I’ll stop in to check it out.

by OrangeUglad on Jan 27, 2012 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

noonans

is pretty much the same as the old macgregors that was there (they literally didn’t change anything but got rid of the pool table in the front.) I loved the old mac g’s, can’t vouch much for noonans only hit it up over thanksgiving when i was back home.

Sports Page is solid for most games

I always either go to the Dome or watch at home though

Anchor Bar wasn't the issue

main issue anyway it was the game outcome. But still I just prefer being able to concentrate on the game and rewind pause, etcc..

by OrangeUglad on Jan 27, 2012 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

Were there folks at Anchor Bar

and sound on?

I agree for the most part, BTW – hard to focus if you’re at a bar, easier at home or in person.

It's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

Weird, I didn't post that twice

and there was text beyond the subject. Whatever.

It's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

by Girardi Party on Jan 27, 2012 3:23 PM EST up reply actions

Place was packed with people

they put the sound on at tip off or there abouts. There were a good amount of obvious SU fans but only a few were making much noise. (understandably). That Anchor bar does not have the character of the original in Buffalo, its attached to a Mall for chris sakes.

by OrangeUglad on Jan 27, 2012 3:24 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, you were at the one in Henrietta, then?

There’s another Anchor Bar in the East End. I’m pretty sure that’s the one Sean is referring to in these posts (since it says Rochester and not Henrietta).

Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip

by MrPlow99 on Jan 27, 2012 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

O reaaaly?

Now I know. Maybe I’ll check that one out sometime. but.. either way I don’t think they are affiliated with the original.

The original in Buffalo is called Anchor Bar and no links to these two in the Roch area which are called Anchor Sports Bar. Makes sense its (Henr location at least) is so different from the Buf. Anchor Bar.

by OrangeUglad on Jan 27, 2012 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

So

should I switch to Henrietta?

They have a bathroom attendant. Personal peeve.

you don't like

being guilted into paying $1 to wash your hands?

by hobocuse on Jan 27, 2012 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

no

worse when he was busy and I pumped my own soap and all he did was hand me a paper towel as I was getting one. Awkward

Section 312

Taking the boy again this year. Hopefully we don’t get stuck on 690 like last year.

by Boscoball on Jan 27, 2012 2:23 PM EST reply actions

It might not be practical

given where you’re trying to park, but you can completely avoid the offramp backups by getting off the highway an exit earlier and taking back streets.

From points east: Midler or Teall on 690
From points north: Salina/Clinton exit on 81 (before 690 and Harrison/Adams)
From points south: Salina/State exit on 81
From points west: West St on 690

I street park off of Genesee/Fayette for every game and I have never had a traffic problem when getting off at Salina St @ Clinton, then taking Fayette the whole way.

It's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

by Girardi Party on Jan 27, 2012 2:45 PM EST up reply actions

Good calls.

I can vouch for this. If you get off 1 or 2 exits before you hit the heart of the city, you’ll fair much better.

I live 2 minutes from Armory Square now so I just take a taxi, but if you do have to drive, get off of the highway sooner rather than later and take the regular streets. If you want more in depth info let me know your starting point and your…FINAL….DESTINATION.

Go for it

Game should be over by 3, and hopefully SU rolls so you can change at a gas station on the way. I wish I could be there, but I will likely miss the first half watching my son play basketball. Sorry, he’s not projected to be a 7 foot tall dominator of the paint.

Have to see if I can set up the tile cutter in the living room so I can watch while working and not make too much of a mess.

I saw that Beth Mowins and Tim Welsh are on the call for the game tomorrow…I might request that Bob’s doesn’t put the sound for us W-S folks.

Where will fab be watching?

Home? The bench in street clothes? The middle of the zone?

Likely #1 or 2, but anyone know if he will be allowed to be there in person?

Columbus, OH

Any idea if the Columbus location is well-attended? I worry that Ohio State-types will be overwhelming as they’re playing some random team from Michigan tomorrow at the same time (somehow those matchups are a big deal around here). I’d rather run into Orange than red and grey.

Annoying, isn’t it? I am down here as well, but I don’t watch games in mixed company as I am kind of psychotic….I am in the basement for every game rocking back and forth like Rainman….In Marietta, btw…..
