This Day in 'Cuse History - January 27th 1996
Here we go Orange fans! Happy Friday and let's travel back to January 27th, 1996.
On this day the Syracuse Orange beat the Boston College Golden Eagles 88-73 in front of 24,600 fans at the Carrier Dome. SU improved to 14-5 on the year while a somewhat decent BC team led by Danya Abrams fell to 12-4.
'Cuse was led by Todd Burgan, who scored 23 points and grabbed 7 boards. John Wallace had a nice performance with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Lazarus Sims scored 18 and dished out 10 assists. And we can't forget Bobby Lazor who came off the bench to grab 1 rebound in 3 minutes.
This was actually a very good SU team that also featured Jason Cipolla, Otis Hill, and Marius Janulis. They were a pretty deep squad and had some balance and star power. They would wind up making a great run during March Madness all the way to the championship game, you may have heard about that. It's all about the Orange!

Burgan one the more underrated players
Could play guard or forward, handle, score, rebound, play D. He was a great player.
Pretty sure the power went out at this game
As Sims was shooting a three. I think it was in the first half. It was pretty cool to have very little lighting in the Dome.
That was a good year in the BE
Everyone was sure the BE would have at least 1 Final Four team; just nobody really thought it would be Syracuse. Iverson, Kittles, Wallace, Ray Allen and Abrams. I remember the talk that that 5 could beat any other 5 in the country.
Plus, 96 had one of the greatest games I will ever remember, the Georgia game in the Sweet 16.
No way
any Cuse fan will ever forget that game. What a classic.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
