Syracuse To Wear Nike Hyper Elite Platinum Uniform Against South Florida
The Syracuse Orange are among eight schools and nine programs with brand new Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms. They will wear the uniform once and only once (much to many fans' delight). That will be the game against the South Florida Bulls on February 22nd.
The other uniforms will only be worn once by each team on the following dates: UConn vs. Notre Dame (1/29), Kentucky vs. Tennessee (1/31), Duke vs. Maryland (2/11), Baylor (women’s) vs. Texas A&M (2/11), Florida vs. Tennessee (2/11), Arizona vs. UCLA (2/25), UConn (women’s) vs. Notre Dame (2/27) and UNC vs. Maryland (2/29).
Each uniform is a grey platinum base highlighted by the colors of each school. The key to this collection of uniforms is the weight, which is ultra-light and allows players optimal movements, especially late in the game.
The jerseys are 5% lighter than previous Nike Hyper Elite versions, the shorts feature laser perforations for breathability and the Nike Hyper Enforcer shoes offer a mixture of dependability and flexibility.

The beginning of the presentation was what I can best describe as "basketball performance art." I will go into it in greater detail later but this should give you the gist...

the women's ones are
Baylor-aTm & UConn-ND are 4 of the best teams in women’s BB. Currently ranked #1, 2, 3, and 13 (and the #13 team won last year’s NCAA title).
Shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q-tip
Maryland gets to play against them twice

every platinum team
is playing either an addidas or under armour school (USF – Under Armour), nike is obviously trying to make a statement to the other brands
One problem with the "Coach"
He needs a laser perforated plaid suit
It's like
All year they’ve been playing with a batting donut on. Come the USF game they will shed 5% of uniform weight! They may jump through the Dome!
5% lighter, really?
That’s like, what, maybe an ounce?

That's a big deal!
At least, that’s what Nike told me

WTH? Worn once?
These are being are being worn only once? Why have this big to-do about them then? I never really paid attention, but did Nike make a big deal about the “alternate” FB unis for UND, Michigan, etc that were worn only once?
Nike does this pretty much every year
They showcase the next year’s lineup for one game. Now, given that I can’t see any of these teams consistently wearing gray (except for those who already do), I wouldn’t expect the colors to stay. But the rest of the design (letterign, the block ‘S’ on the back, etc.) will prolly show up on next season’s unis with the more conventional orange/white color scheme.

Our Current Uniforms were the same thing.
I don’t remember who we played, but it was, I think, 3 years ago. We rolled out ones that were close to the same thing and then switched to them the next year.
I remember them making a big deal about Hendricks Chapel on the back.

That started with our home game against UConn two years ago
Added that orange on the collar at home, blue collar on the road, and added the same colors to the waistband on the shorts along with ’CUSE. We never went back to the old jerseys we had been wearing, wore it the rest of that year and then for all of last season and this season so far.
And of course I had bought one of the old jerseys about 3 weeks before they changed them.
I knew it was quick,
but I didn’t realize we did a wholesale change over.

just noticed
they are having all teams wear these when they play non-nike teams.
I stand corrected
Every picture I was finding had Nike logos on them
What is cool...
…about a balding, overweight fifty year old guy in a quarter zip warm up??

Optical Illusion.
Grey looks about 5% heavier than orange.
If Nike told me this was some material
that was uber-light and was not able to even hold dyes or silk screen due to its durability – I would honestly understand that. But this just seems like BS for the sake of BS- well Im glad everyone has realized how ugly these stupid uniforms are, and we only have to wear them once before they hit the dumpster.
It makes them look like some kind of intergalactic basketball team from far in the future, where humans have mutated so that tasteful school colors burn our eyes like chlorine.
Bingo, Thank You Pinker!
Since the early 1990's I have not been able to get Mike Hopkins' bloody face out of my brain. I don't remember what game it was but I'll never forget that as my first memory of SU basketball. Mike Hopkins, bloody face, bloody nose, all for the love of Syracuse.
Bravo, Pinker
If you want, you could reduce their weight by almost 50% by making the shorts a realistic length.
5%? Ooooh! I’m impressed.
They’re grey, not platinum.

Its no Seton Hall vs Rutgers
But when I think of important games Syracuse vs USF is towards the top of my list.
For me too poop on.

i like the tab on the logo
if you click it does a better looking uni open in a new window?
also, ‘Hyper Elite Platinum’ is a lot of adjectives.
Change the grey to white, outline the S in blue with the S being orange and those would be sick

Even then, I don't think it would look good
Reminds me of those futuristic uniforms they wore in MLB in the late 90s (or whenever that was)
Really
When has a “futuristic” uniform ever been well recieved?

Is it just me
Or is the S Screwed UP? The top part is more right side view 3d and the bottom is bottom view 3d? Anyone else see that?
The color scheme is turrble
But I’ll buy what Nike is selling in terms of the performance aspects of the new unis. I’ll admit that I swear by Nike basketball sneakers. I won’t wear anything else (though the same can’t be said for other gear), so feel free to chalk this up to me being a fanboy.
When it comes to elite athletes, which many of these players are, even a slight difference in equipment can make a difference in performance. Take this extreme hypothetical. At the end of the 6 OT game, Paul Harris was routinely missing layups and dunks. Maybe if his uni was 5% lighter, he makes those and it’s only a 4 OT game. Its an extreme example, I know, but if it didn’t make a difference, top players wouldn’t be so picky about their equipment.

Perhaps the lighter uniform would have allowed Devo to get to the apex of his jump a split second quicker, thereby endign the game in regulation

might have a point
first thing devo wanted to do after hitting the (almost) game winner was take his shirt off.

Like I said
It was a hyberbolic example. And, yeah, “Hyper Elite Platinum” is just greasy salesman speak. But Nike didn’t get to be Nike on sales pitches and fashion shows alone.

I feel ya on the shoes
I won’t run in anything other than the Brooks Adrenaline series. I’ve been wearing them for 6 years and don’t really like anything else.

Just checked the comments on the Orange's official FB page
Over a 100 comments, only four are positive. This is about as popular as SOPA.

it's not just us
Cbssports.com’s Matt Norlander hates the new unis too.

My first thought was, "grey is a Georgetown color" as well.
I’ve seen clips of Wazzou and K-State wearing grey unis. They looked ugly.

This made me laugh
There is good news. First of all, the uniforms are apparently great for the environment, having been made up of mostly recycled polyester material, as well as most of Jim Boeheim’s old, sweaty dress shirts.

a real UConn player
would have stolen goods under the warmup outfit
Yea I'm
Really seeing her as the only good thing in these pics.
I would love to take that girl out and show her the time of her life
and then never call her again
My Hope for the USF Game
Bulls go up 20 at half, SU burns the uniforms at halftime, comes back for dramatic victory in the current uniforms (or pretty much any other SU uniform).
But we need that 5% lighter uniform
to carry us in the last few minutes!
Absolute crap. All just for Nike pimpin'.
Clothes are clothes are clothes. Might as well just be like Borneo tribesmen and go nude, except for the little grass thong.
5%, especially late during games. Rather comical. That one mL less of sweat is going to help Fab block an incoming layup, right?
"It's magnificent to be in Europe, and this club - a club like Tottenham Hotspur - if we're not in Europe.... we're nothing. We're nothing." - Bill Nicholson
Why is it
that Nike comes out with a more “lightweight” fabric every 2 years? What were people wearing for basketball games for the previous 100 years? Burlap?
It’s amazing how quickly Nike is engineering lighter fabrics.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
I think the "lighter" comments
Refer more to moisture wicking and things like that. The material itself might not be any lighter, but if it holds less sweat during the course of a gain, it may end up being lighter than some other material.
