Syracuse University Athletics - Spruill Sidelined for Spring Practice
Syracuse linebacker Marquis Spruill (113 tackles in '11) will miss 2012 Spring football practice due to a lower body injury that will require surgery. His status for the 2012 season will be evaluated throughout the rehabilitation process and announced prior to the start of pre-season camp.

Jim Calhoun talks Cincinnati, Syracuse, Tennessee - Hartford Courant
"Jim [Boeheim] has done a masterful job. It’s not a great surprise. He’s a great friend of mine, but beyond that he’s a tremendous, tremendous basketball coach. … He has all his attention, as well I knew he would, in to his basketball team. Quite frankly, for a lot of coaches, myself included, the respite you get from the storm outside is right in that gym. And Jim’s done a masterful job, obviously.

Boeheim reflects on tying Rupp, looks ahead to lighter schedule - YNN, Your News Now
Jim Boeheim did not want to talk about tying Adolph Rupp for fourth all-time in NCAA Division I men's basketball with 876 career wins following the Pittsburgh game, but Boeheim was more forthcoming during his weekly Syracuse Sidelines appearance Thursday.

Watertown Daily Times | Nothing gloomy about Fair’s game
"He’s been there almost every night, and that’s all you can ask of a player,’’ Boeheim said. "When we need a big rebound, C. J. usually gets it. He’s just got a knack for finding the basketball.’’

During tumultuous season, Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim keeps focus on game | syracuse.com
"It’s been pretty normal as far as basketball is concerned. That part has been normal, and as far as the basketball part is concerned we’ll try to keep it that way."

The Grant brothers -- Jerami and Jerian -- are on different sides of the Syracuse-Notre Dame basketball debate | syracuse.com
"Of course I want my brother to do good," [Jerami] Grant said, "but also, I’m hoping Syracuse wins."

Bob Ryan says he's 'dazzled' by the Syracuse basketball team: 'The depth is frightening' (audio) | syracuse.com
"To say I was dazzled would be an understatement, because their depth is frightening. I really, really enjoy the way they played. ... Bringing (C.J.) Fair and (Dion) Waiters off the bench is almost unfair."

The Axepress Lane on SU Hoops going gray?; it is not too early for draft talk, and my Super Bowl pick! | syracuse.com
Some of you are not happy with Bud Poliquin and I for bringing up the possibility of Dion Waiters and Fab Melo jumping to the NBA Draft after this season in the latest edition of the "Bud and Brent Show" here on Syracuse.com If it is too early to bring it up, why did Jim Boeheim bring it up in a radio conversation with Bud Poliquin and Jim Lerch on the radio the other day?

Star-divide

Katz: Games to track this weekend - College Basketball Nation Blog - ESPN
The Irish can make shots, but don’t have the overall depth to deal with Syracuse. If the Orange are going to lose on the road, then it probably comes at Cincinnati on Monday or sometime in February. This should be an intriguing trip for the undefeated Orange.

Syracuse on top; Baylor rises as UNC falls in latest Power Rankings - Luke Winn - SI.com
Even though the kenpom numbers like UConn more than Cincinnati, Syracuse's toughest remaining game may really be on Monday against the Bearcats. Murray State's situation doesn't get real until the Feb. 25 visit to Tennessee Tech. Kenpom gives the Racers victory odds of 96, 96, 96, 96 and 95 percent in their next five games, so this topic isn't likely to die anytime soon.

Nation of Orange - Skreened T-shirts
Get your official Go-To Guy t-shirts. Since Syracuse has none, apparently, you'll need to carry the torch.

Syracuse Orange Basketball - Catching Up With 2014 4-Star PG Prospect JaQuan Newton
JaQuan Newton is a 6'1" point guard prospect from the class of 2014 from Philadelphia. Syracuse has had good luck recruiting out of Philly lately, with current players Scoop Jardine, Dion Waiters, and Rakeem Christmas, as well as former player Rick Jackson. Coincidentally, Newton attends the same high school that produced both Jardine and Jackson (St. John Neumann High School).

Anthony Davis, Jeremy Lamb impress in 2012 NBA draft stock watch - Ben Glicksman - SI.com
"He just couldn't play extended minutes last year," a scout said. "He seemed to get tired and I don't think Jimmy [Boeheim] trusted him in the game. Now, he's lost a significant amount of weight and is much more active and blocking shots. It tells us something about him. He was willing to work and it's really helped him."

Syracuse University Athletics - Watch 'Breaking Barriers: Building Dreams'
Breaking Barriers: Building Dreams, a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Ernie Davis’ historic Heisman Trophy victory will air on Time Warner Cable Sports throughout the coming weeks. The ninety-minute special will premiere on Thursday, January 19 at 7:30 pm on TWCS Channels 13 and 813.

Blueprint To Beat Undefeated Syracuse " Rush The Court
Any hope of knocking off Syracuse begins and ends with limiting the Orange transition game. Boeheim has instructed his guards at the top of their 2-3 zone to always be active in the passing lanes in order to get deflections and race the other way. It’s no coincidence that two of their more competitive games- against Virginia Tech at MSG and the recent home victory over Pittsburgh – were two of the three lowest possession contests of the season. Pitt was able to limit the Orange to just 62 possessions despite a 13-0 run to begin the game and stayed within striking distance.
