Highest Career Points for Coaching Staff?
Watching the Tennessee vs. Georgia game and the commentators did some research and said that the Tennessee coaching staff scored a total of 5381 points, #1 in all of hoops. They showed the top five teams (Auburn and Valpo were second and third) and I was surprised to see that Syracuse wasn't one of them, with Jim, GMAC, Red and Laz on it. I'd really like to refute this, but since SOPA/PIPA is wreaking havoc on our beloved WIKI it's difficult to look up.
I know JIm wasn't exactly lighting it up with Mayor Bing, and Laz didn't get a ton of run as an underclassmen, but I remember Red starting most of his career and we all know Gerry....

A quick check at orangehoops.org
shows that your suspicion was correct, and Syracuse should be #1 in the category…
Autry 1538
Boeheim 745
Hopkins 628
McNamara 2099
Sims 385
Total = 5,395 points
And how could I overlook the coach in waiting, duh.....
….Thanks, I knew that wasn’t right…..and Greg is probably right, they probably compiled this before the season and didn’t count grad assistants……
Maybe they need to update their coaching chart?
2k of those points were from a Grad Asst at the beginning of the year….
Any chance you caught a screengrab
or could get one? WE can turn this into a post.

I have it TiVO'd so I could refer back to it and give the stats...
…if anyone needed them….
I have no idea how to do a screengrab off of TV/DVR? If it’s pretty easy, I can do that. Worse to worst, I can take a pic of TV on camera and post it????
I know how to take a screenshot off of a computer, but no idea how to get my laptop to show the picture of my TV on my laptop…..Can I just take laptop and hook to DVR with HDMI cable and that’s how that works? If so, I’ll do that tomorrow if that’s cool….
Do you have a camera phone?
You could at least take a picture that way and put it online
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

A company issues Blackberry piece of sh**....
My camera is at work, I’ll bring it home tomorrow and take pics of TV and add them here…
This is kind of silly....
I took pics with said Blackberry….and still can’t figure out how to post them here….
I have them saved to pictures file on laptop, but when I go to post them here it asks for a website….And since its on my local machine and not a website, not sure how to do that….
Sorry for novice questions…..and now I REALLY need to go to sleep now…..
It does need to be online.
You can use Flickr or photobucket, etc. Set up a free account, post the picture to the account, then get the URL for image itself once it’s posted.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
Could this have been
Just SEC teams? What were 4 and 5? Alo, you have to wonder about what their criteria was. Do Grad Assistants not count?
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
and I beleive that Gerry is now officially
an Assistant Coach after Bernie got booted. So all those guys count as coaches in my book. You could MAYBE argue SIms isnt (Coordinator of Player Development/Asst. Strength and Conditioning Coach ) but, hey – he does have coach in his title.
Jim Boeheim Men’s Basketball Head Coach
Mike Hopkins Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach
Adrian Autry Assistant Coach
Gerry McNamara Assistant Coach
Lazarus Sims Coordinator of Player Development/Asst. Strength and Conditioning Coach
Like I said...
Auburn was 2, Valpo 3….so it wasn’t SEC only….Not sure if they counted grad assistants…..4 was Brown and 5 was Kansas…..
Oh Valpo
I read that as Vandy last night

Yeah, didn't mean to sound prickish, either....
…After typing it I knew you probably translated that in your brain from Valpo to Vandy…
It's right here

Also with this caveat.
The totals below reflect only full-time coaches and do not include support staff members like directors of operations or video coordinators.
Sims doesn’t count then. Also check the date when that was done. Oct 19th 2011. BEFORE Bernie Fine got fired so McNamara doesn’t count because GMac was a grad assistant before getting promoted. So remove Sims and GMac and you get the Cuse coaches with 2600 ish points and correctly not in the top 10.
Nothing to see here. You know, Cuse isn’t ALWAYS getting dumped on guys.
Not a point about being dumped on and I am sure you're being sarcastic....My sarcasm detector doesn't work too well after midnight....
….Just thought it odd that Cuse wasn’t even in honorable mention status with a full staff of ex-players….they didn’t say in the telecast “as of Oct 19, 2011”, which would have clued me in to not having GMAC…..
sorry
just seems like a majority of people here has been overly sensitive at any sign of Cuse “disrespect.” Didn’t mean for it like that. I wouldn’t expect ESPN to actually put facts in when they take something from the Internet. If they just put a little note in giving credit then it wouldn’t have come up. They stink. When I saw that I knew Gmac wasn’t factored in. He and Autry alone are in the top 10.
I wonder how many assistants/coaches have 2000 career points. That would be a much better list IMO.
No sweat....
….If this were football I’d be up in arms, because it matters….But we play the championship on the court, so who cares what the pundits say…..Although a ton of the dissing makes me scratch my head, I don’t get upset about it…..
bet even when the list was mde we had the most points at the same school on lock though
F#&% the Big East
Definitely
It is nice to see a bench full of our own guys. No disrespect to Rob Murphy of course.

This is all good info though
I never really thought about where we’d rank in something like this. Obviously, no recruits are going to care about exactly how many points these guys scored, but the fact that they all played at a high level (even if it was generations ago), has to at least give them some credibility.
And you have to love how all these guys played for SU then came back to SU. Has to speak to the “family” aspect of the coaching staff and the university. Just looking at the staff quickly, the only guy that didn’t get a degree from SU was Stan Kissel, the director of basketball ops.
May not count for much for every recruit, but it has to count for something for some of these guys.

I just did an article that mentioned Johnny Dawkins
He scored 2556 points for Duke. I could not find any details on this three assistants. One guy lettered for Pacific for three years. He could have scored 10 points, he could have scored 500. I don’t know. Another guy averaged 10 points over three seasons for San Francisco… but good luck figuring out how many games they played. But that’s probably another 600. The third guy didn’t seem to play at all.
Long story short, it sure took a lot of searching for that one dead end. Not sure how easy it is to verify these totals.

I'm on the case, folks...
