Syracuse Recruiting: Garrick Goes Orange
Sacramento City College DE Mark Garrick visited the Syracuse Orange last weekend as part of a big recruiting event. He liked what he say so much that he decided to take his talents across the country and play for the Orange next season.
Defensive end Mark Garrick, a 6-foot-4, 270-pounder out of Sacramento City College told Orange coaches today that he wants to play for SU.
Garrick, who is orginally from Gadsen, S.C., was among four junior college prospects who visited campus last weekend.
The East Coast was calling to Garrick, who told ESPN “I wanted to stay on the East Coast. I wanted to play ball and was given an opportunity to do that closer to home.”
Garrick garnered 54 tackles in 10 games for the Panthers last season and was named to the 2011 Mid-Empire All-Conference Team.
He doesn't seem to be ranked by either Scout or Rivals. However, according to Facebook, his job is "Defense" and his job description is "PUNISH anybody who's man enough 2 line up." Which is worth at least three stars in my book.
Watch some highlights here.

Looks Good, No Star ratings for JC players
Welcome to the ‘Cuse Mark! Now Hit some offseason P90X and get ready to Crush some QB’s next year!
Players coming out of Junior College don’t usually dont get star ratings Cam Newton was unrated coming out of JC. Looks Like he’s really pushing people around at the JC level on the video and particularly of note he has a nose for the ball which is somthing that can’t be taught. How Bout 2 Enthusiastic Thumbs Up Welcome Mark!

It now says he is a soft verbal due to his visit to Missouri. Hopefully he sticks with Cuse.

Anyone got anything on this kid before he went JUCO for 2 years? Wondering what the recruiting folks were saying about him then.
“PUNISH anybody who’s man enough 2 line up.”
That’s a lot better than the ESPN profiles that list the guys position as ‘Athlete’.

Is there something special about JUCO schools in CA?
Seriously, I’m just curious – it seems like we only go after kids out there.

CA
Yeah from what I’ve heard California is considered the best Juco League state in the country with Kansas and Texas also having very good leagues. I dont know why this is but it may be a function of how these states have set up their state school system into tiers or fund athletics or what causes that.
