SOPA Does Not Stand For Syracuse Overrated, Please Announce
Since you should know about these things...

Just so you're aware, SOPA isn't just the fight of a few neer-do-wells. Hundreds of notable companies and organizations have come out in support of it and PIPA, including the NCAA, NBA, MLB, NFL, PGA, MLS, UFC, ESPN, Nike, New Era, Adidas and Under Armour. And that's just the sports-related ones.
SOPA is a lot like the BCS. There are good intentions buried deep within but there's so much shady muckity-muck surrounding those good intentions that the bad far outweighs the good.
The good hews is that SOPA got dealt a pretty good blow yesterday but the bill has merely been delayed. And PIPA is still scheduled for a vote in Congress next week.
Learn what you need to know about SOPA and PIPA here and I'm sure the SU iSchool will be following things very closely.
Now stop making that "what's the big deal about that Italian soap, anyway?" joke...cause I already make it.

Everyone keeps talking about PIPA too
That’s the queen’s sister or something, right?
Why does the internet...
hate Spanish word for soup?
Anyone that isn't aware of SOPA/PIPA please read up on them
and contact your representatives! It only takes a few minutes to make a phone call or write an e-mail.
I tried to look it up ...
But Wikipedia isn’t working

I actually looked up who in my district was in favor of SOPA
in order to contact them. Clicked on the Wikipedia link. Fail.
As funny as this is, if you actually go to Wikipedia the only thing you can do is look up your representative.
Just pointin’ it out.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
Already have
I just wish people got this pissed off over other things like this. Guess that’s society, though.
Hopefully more people are aware of it now and get pissed off
The worst part about these bills is that younger people are typically too apathetic and older people don’t understand it.
In case anyone missed it...go to Wikipedia.com (English language)
the ‘blackout page’ comes up, enter your zip code, and it’ll give you contact info for your local representatives.

Thanks for posting this
We will not rest until we see these capitalist octopuses annihilated.

So the ischool is against the bill, but I’m guessing most of Newhouse is in favor of it. As much as we hate ESPN, they pay reporters to go out and do stories, then Troy Nunes puts a link here or I take a story from Grantland and put it on my Facebook page and I am using some else’s resources and not compensating them for it. That’s the juxt of the argument.

Those companies want us to have a link there
They’re interested in page hits so they can sell advertising. There’s a reason websites have a button you can click to post the article straight to your Facebook or Twitter, or to get more Diggs.

May Doug Marrone bless you and keep you.

You're also putting the "little guys" out of work.
Gaffers, lighting guys, all those names you don’t care about in the credits. Those are the people that are hurt by piracy. Justify it any way you want, it’s stealing.
BTW, Ike Perlmutter looks a lot like Stan Lee.

I dont download movies
or music. I can understand that side of it and going after those sites. But this legislation is taking it to the extreme. If I post a video to youtube and use a song in the background, it gets taken down or the audio gets deleted. I posted a phone video from the stands of 30 seconds a boxing match that was a week old, I paid good money to have decent seats and got threatened with legal action and had my youtube account froze. That was extreme. Yes, they own their broadcast and production, but this was my own film with my camera, no different than if I had taken a photo from the stands. How much more legislation than that do we need?
May Doug Marrone bless you and keep you.
Sorry.
Didn’t mean to make it seem like I support SOPA or PIPA. I don’t and I should have stated that. I just think there is a major problem with piracy and entitlement.

Agreed
There needs to be something done, but this isn’t it.

I agree.
As a big fan of your artwork, I don’t want to see someone stealing it. However, SOPA and PIPA would have made it very hard for you to get your art out there and eventually get hired. In fact, if you had a competitor, he could send someone to an internet cafe, post his pic on your blog in the comments section, and then claim that your site violates his copyright just to shut you down. Muzzling is just as bad as theft in my opinion. Most smaller name artists and IP owners and the like strongly oppose this legislation, as do a lot of editorialists for newspapers.
or
get TNIAAM shut down on suspicion of using his art work without permission.
May Doug Marrone bless you and keep you.
While I agree that piracy most certainly needs to be curtailed
SOPA/PIPA go WAY over the line in terms of protecting copyrights, and essentially give the government unchecked power to control the flow of information on the internet.

I think that's where most people fall in the debate
Problem is, all that is heard in Washington is that the people with $$$ (Hollywood) are being harmed. They don’t care that the rest are being hurt.
I wrote about this for another blog
I was about to modify my post for here but didn’t end up having time for it. Good job getting out the word.
I clicked because
I wanted to know what a site called “Gather The Jews” is all about.

That's funny
Because ESPN would get bitch slapped real hard real fast for the “scoops” it does.

This act needs to be opposed. It won’t stop online piracy (pirates operate on open proxies and can change their servers in a heartbeat; if this act worked then stopping viruses would be as easy as pie). It will, however, be used by big content and big business to stifle fair competition by small entrepeneurs and independent artists.
Here’s a great piece that reflects my views on the whole thing:
