Kicking has been a curious beast for the Syracuse Orange the past few seasons. Das Boot wasn't always on the mark in 2011 and he'll have some stiffer competition next season when Ryan Norton of Garden City High School on Long Island matriculates at SU.
Norton, who is also a lacrosse midfielder for the perennial state power Trojans, told Orange coaches on Sunday that he would accept a scholarship to kick for SU. He is the 22nd member of SU's recruiting class of 2012.
As a senior, Norton was named second-team all-state and had 45 touchbacks on kickoffs. Being able to have a guy that can boot the ball to the back of the endzone regularly is a nice weapon to have. He also broke the school's record for field goals in a season and is considered quite the clutch kicker.
Norton was not rated by Scout or Rivals. He reportedly received interest from Georgia Tech and offers from Rice and Richmond but went with the Orange.
