No Goggles Required: Get an Early Look at an SU Recruit
Fine… it’s actually Harvey Grant who is Jerami Grant’s father, not Horace. Who said headline writing was easy?
Anyway, if you’ve been hankering for a glimpse at one of next season’s two prized Orange basketball recruits, ESPN will help to sate your appetite this coming Monday. I know, I know. We hate ESPN. But hear me out.
Jerami Grant, a 2012-13 Syracuse Orange freshman-to-be and top 100 ranked forward from Hyattesville, Maryland, will lead his DeMatha Catholic team into Springfield, Mass. for an early afternoon tilt on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Grant and company will face off against Bishop Gorman out of Las Vegas, which features consensus Class of 2012 #1 ranked forward Shabazz Muhammad. It may be the toughest head-to-head match-up Grant faces all season, and will be a prime opportunity for Orange fans to get a long look at a potential replacement for outgoing senior Kris Joseph in the fall of 2012.
The game is part of the Spalding Hoophall Classic, and is scheduled to air live on ESPNU at 1:00. If you aren’t lucky enough to be off from work or school, now’s the time to set your DVR. We’ll have a recap of the game and analysis of the future Orange man right here on TNIAAM.
Here is some Grant and Muhammad YouTubery to whet your appetite for their showdown this coming Monday.

21 on Dematha is a 2013 potential recruit, Beejay Anya.
I didn’t realize he was shorter than Grant though, I hope he grows a few more inches because that’s an undersized 5 if we land him, not sure Beejay would be a wing player in the 2-3
Anya would be akin to a poor man's AO.
I’d rather go after Nerlens and Goodluck.

Nice highlights
But i’m looking forward to see him in game action. Basketball highlights are fine and dandy, but I’d really like to see him in the flow of a game. Instead of dunks, 3’s and blocked shots. Kid seems real quick off his feet tho!

Agreed
It will be interesting to see him not only in live comp but against one of the best in his class.
I really like Grant's game.
I think he translates to a Damone Brown type of player. Or if he really tops out, John Wallace.

Nope, we are getting Jerami Grant, The #8 SF prospect in this years class - Shabbaz is ranked #1 SF
Shabazz is as yet undeclared, but sounds like Kentucky. He already looks like he’s been playing college ball for two years. While Im looking forward to seeing what Grant is capable of after some seasoning (looks like a beast on defense) that Shabazz is a man among boys out there already.
Muhammad said he took official visits to Texas A&M in September and Kentucky in October. He spoke highly of both programs, in particular the Wildcats, whose Big Blue Madness impressed him. Of the coaches he’s met, UK’s John Calipari stands out, Muhammad said.
“I think it’s probably because it was my last official visit,” he said, “but Coach Cal’s personality is great. He pushes his players in practice. That’s the thing I’m looking for. I’m trying to get better and get to the next level.”
Correct
Pinker is correct. Sorry if I was unclear, Voteprime. I don’t know if SU has any scholarships left for next year even if they were recruiting Muhammad, unless someone leaves early for the pros.
We got 12 right now
Dashonte leaving opened up one. Scoop and Kris both graduate to open up for the two we have coming in.
Good news for todays cuse game...
Higgins already did the cincy game, burr is doing the pitt.marq game
Bad news….neither were there for the first prov.cuse game…
You keep chanting one more year, I thought college was four years

I see Grant as more
of a CJ Fair type. He’ll come in ready to contribute, but his skill set will grow each year.
Cuse fan in ACC country.

Ready to contribute to a roster with little room.
I’d like to see him RS next season. The frontcourt is absolutely STACKED.

Perhaps
In the 2-3 zone the SF and PF are fairly interchangeable. It’s possible that Fair could start at SF next year with Southerland and Grant coming off the bench.

BTW
Anyone know the most that Syracuse has trailed by in any game so far this season? Have they trailed by double digits at any time?
I have saved every game on my TiVO, but I just don't have the time...
…But weren’t they down 9 to Stanford?
Final in Tallahassee
FSU 90
North Carolina 57
Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
“I think today we saw a different side of UNC. How many other teams in the country can put 5 walk ons out there in a pressure situation like that? I think with that kind of total team depth and talent they are clearly the #1 team. Maybe when Syracuse recruits some better walk ons and runs the table I will vote them #1.”

things to take away from the vid.
As stated above.. highlight vids are tough to judge, but you need to look for certain tendencies and underrated aspects, here’s what i got.
made a driving layup with his left hand
blocked shots with both hands
went to the rim STRONG, dunked when he could
good footwork in post(the reverse layup was nice)
shooting stroke is…ok…doesn’t seem fluid, little too high. But its not scoop freshman year
not afraid of driving.. but definitely want to see it more
head up when dribbling, can create for others using the dribble
Obviously.. hoping i can watch that game on monday.
Agree
but i’ll say you want players to shoot the ball high. I think his shot looks ok as well, but too high is a good thing. I think he flicks it a little too much and seems to fall back a step when shooting rather then going straight up. Could use some work but definitely seems capable.
