Pinstripe Bowl ratings drop 20%
Last season the Pinstripe Bowl got a 2.63 rating: http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819384
This season the Pinstripe Bowl got a 2.1 rating: http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2012/01/13/Media/Bowl-ratings/Bowl-Viewership.aspx
And Jersey State even had the benefit of playing on a Friday before a holiday weekend (last season's game was on a Thursday). Undoubtedly there were a lot more people off from work this year as compared to last.
There is no spinning this. News directors that lose 20% of an audience from the previous year get fired. TV shows that lose 20% of the audience from the previous show get canceled. Simply put, this is the TV ratings equivalent of an ass-kicking.
Any more questions about why the ACC picked SU over Jersey State?

That's because attendance at the game
was so high. You cannot expect high ratings when so many more fans were actually attending the game.
FYI, according to Wikipedia, 38,328 fans crammed the stadium to watch Rutgers play.
That’s way more than the 38,274 that saw Syracuse play.
Dictated, but not read.

Accounts from a few fans I talked to said that your number of 38,328 HAS to be tickets sold,
They said they would be surprised if it were over 15k.

Maybe all the Rutgers fans that control the NYC market
sat their invisible selves in those seats and invisibly watched the game
