The Syracuse Orange are still the No. 1 team in the land. So whatcha got?
Calling us overrated is just lazy and boring at this point.
Complaining about our non-conference schedule is over.
We just beat the No. 20 team in the nation so you can't say we haven't played anyone good lately.
So what's left? What will this week's caveat to Syracuse's ranking be?
Now, let's just state right away that I'm not writing this to attack Seth Davis et al. (especially since at this point they're talking a great deal of pleasure in our complaining). This is for when you sit down in the bar to watch the Villanova game or start talking about SU in the office and some jerk alum from a Catholic school who wears a bowtie regurgitates that fact back to you.
So, since Seth brought it up, yes it's true. We don't play a ranked team on the road until February 13th. First of all, obviously that's our fault. We always make our own Big East schedule. Just like how we tell the Preseason NIT who to invite.
Second, the unsaid implication of that statement is that other top schools like Kentucky, North Carolina and Ohio State play a ranked team on the road way sooner than that.
Let's check.
- Ohio State's next road game against a ranked team...February 4th at Wisconsin.
- Duke's next road game against a ranked team...February 8th at North Carolina.
- Syracuse's next road game against a ranked team...February 13th at Louisville.
- Kentucky's next road game against a ranked team...February 21st at Mississippi State.
- North Carolina's next road game against a ranked team...February 25th at Virginia.
No road games against a ranked team in January? All five of these teams should be put on probation.
