The first thing I did after hearing about the conference shift was reach for a basketball schedule. I'm assuming SU wriggles out of the 27 month commitment. And thus the SU farewell tour will look like this. These are the teams/arenas/fans we can expect to greet our beloved Orange with a chorus of boos.
Providence (1979*) - January 4
Villanova (1980) - January 11
Notre Dame (1995) - January 21
Cincinnati (2005) - January 23
St. John's (1979*) - February 4
Louisville (2005) - February 13
Rutgers (1991) - February 19
Connecticut (1979*) - February 25
I included the year that teams joined the Big East for a reason. Only four of the teams were in what I think of as the original Big East. Louisville, Cincinnati, and DePaul have been around slightly longer than my five year old niece. I'm sure we'll hear the boos everywhere, because that's what one does when someone leaves a conference, but the only place they'll actually mean any thing to me is in Philly, MSG and Storrs (if UConn doesn't get a spot in the big boy league). They'd mean something in Providence, but first they need people to actually go to the game.
I'm with Jimmy B on this one. If this was the original nine or ten team conference and we were leaving it, I'd feel like a carpetbagger. A traitor. Leaving one mega-conference for another mega-conference? Meh.
