Some practical DO's and DON'Ts for the SU Football Program. Feel free to add any you think of...this is just my way of venting my frustration over this weekend's events.
DO accept whatever position you are assigned on the team, and do so with gratitude, along with your scholarship.
DO NOT accept anything anyone else gives you under any circumstance.
DO obey the curfew. Football is tough, and so is completing your college education.
DO NOT go to Turning Stone or any other casino for any reason, EVER. (The best thing that could happen in that situation: you might get to see Dana Holgorsen make an ass of himself.)
DO go to class. Doug Marrone likes it when you get good grades. More importantly, it'll look great on your resume after college when no one cares about your football abilities.
DO NOT skip your classes to take a roadtrip with your friends. Your final exams are especially important.
DO show up to practice early. Punctuality will get you far with the coaches, and in life.
DO NOT punch random SU students that may or may not have thrown a snowball at your car. Even if he's acting like an ass that deserved it.
DO try to intervene if you catch one of your teammates about to do something incredibly stupid.
DO NOT snitch on your teammates to the police. I don't care how thin we are at linebacker, you'll never see the light of day again.
DO whatever the coaches ask you to do, no matter what. Whether it helps you make a name for yourself or not.
DO NOT give the Syracuse Police Dept. or worse, the SU Office of Judicial Affairs, any reason to know your name.
DO make a name for yourself for doing good things off the field - for example, spend time volunteering in the community.
DO NOT voluntarily spend your time partying with Pitt football players. They won't get punished. You will.
DO find an internship over the summer that allows you to gain practical experience related to your field of study.
DO NOT get a part time job that allows you to gain practical experience related to stealing your teammates TV. Or anyone elses TV for that matter.
DO gain exposure by playing basketball for a top college basketball program. It might even be enough to land you the starting QB position.
DO NOT expose yourself at a high school basketball game, though it might also help land you the starting QB position. At Milford.
DO go to the gym to work on strength and conditioning over the summer.
DO NOT operate a motor vehicle without a license.
DO obey all traffic laws while operating a motor vehicle.
DO NOT operate a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
DO NOT operate a motor vehicle with any quantity alcohol and/or drugs present
DO as many of the "DO" items listed above as possible.
DO NOT commit any of the "DO NOT" items listed above. And really try extremely hard not to do more than one of them at the same time (that means YOU TOO, MARCUS!!!)
