We're counting down every SU football player, one a day, from Chandler Jones (#99) to Phil Thomas (#1). Keep track of every player profile right here.
Next up on your Orange-Man Orientation, #39, Dom Anene.
Position: Linebacker
Year: Junior
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 237
Hometown: Redlands, CA
High School: Redlands
2010 Stats: DNP
2011 Projections: Anene won't be seeing much more playing time this year than he did in the previous one. The walk-on is currently No. 2 on the depth chart at the WLB but there's incoming freshmen to be placed and he was really 3rd-string before Mario Tull moved from LB to RB. I suppose the converted DB could see some time on special teams, so, there's that.
How'd He Get Here?: Anene had a decorated high school career in which he was selected to the All-CBI League First Team as a senior, earned second team all-county and second team All-CBI League honors as a junior and was named defensive back MVP for the team. There isn't much info out there on how the Cali kid ended up in Syracuse, NY and then walked-on to the football team before his sophomore season.
Scouts/Rivals Said: Nothing. Jerks. Although Scout says he apparently received some interest from BC and UNLV.
Money Quote: Dom lets everyone know where he stands about Chipotle and its crappy counterparts on this Facebook post...
If I had money to start a chipotle franchise by SU, I'd do it in a beat. I crave it all the time. F***k all those crappy overpriced stores on Marshall street and that crappy burrito place in the square mall.
Links of Wonder: According to his Facebook profile, he aligns himself with the Democratic Party.
Doug Marrone Thinks: Nothing officially, as you might imagine. Things don't bode well for Anene's chances at LB based on these thoughts.
The change leaves only walk-on junior Dom Anene behind freshman Dyshawn Davis at weakside linebacker, but Marrone said there are some freshmen coming in who might step into that spot.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Anene's actual first name is Jideofor. Fantastic.
Let Us Get A Good Look Atchya: I got nothing. I was lucky to get that one photo of him. Anyone?
