Syracuse Football: Get To Know Your Orange Man - #68 Nick Robinson
Today, we take a look at one of SU's many incoming freshman, Nick Robinson from Baldwinsville. Here we go.
Player: Nick Robinson
Number: #68
Position: Offensive Line
Year: Freshman
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 265
Hometown: Baldwinsville, NY
High School: C.W. Baker
2010 Stats: He might have done some high school things, but obviously he didn't suit up for SU last year.
2011 Projections: Very few offensive linemen play their first year, and Nick's a bit of a local project player, so don't expect much from him in the immediate future.
How'd He Get Here?: Nick's always been a Syracuse fan, so when Marrone swooped in with a late offer, he jumped all over it. Nick was all set to go to Tulane before the SU offer.
What Did Scout/Rivals Say?: Both have Nick listed as a 2-star prospect.
Money Quote: When asked about the team running out onto the field to start the game, with the sultry sounds of Carrier Dome 80's hair metal blaring:
"It always gives me the chills...I want to do that."
Links of Wonder: Nolan's PS story on Nick's commitment to SU.
What Does Marrone Think?: Not all that much. Someone should ask him.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Nick got a lot of cool awards in High School. The Post-Standard made him the first ever lineman to win All-Central New York Player of the Year. He was first team All-State in class AA. Nick helped lead B'Ville to two straight Section 3 and Class AA football titles. A winning pedigree is always a plus.

#34 on the first play has had better days, I'm sure.

Dion Waiters has company...
in the “Freshman who appears to be in his 30’s” category.
Did you just say Doug Marrone doesn't think all that much?

He has a good frame, and looks like he can add some weight to it.
Which is nice, because I like the stuff I saw on his recruiting video. He clearly loves to run block, and seems like he does an adequate job of setting his feet and a great job both driving and finishing blocks, even into the second level.
I wish there was a little more pass blocking on there to see, but from the little I saw, he seems like he might need to get his feet under him quicker while dropping back, especiialy his outside leg.
A little more bulk, and some work on his hand placement, this guy could be a nice tackle down the road.
It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.

Coach San Filipo doesn't pass
Unless he has me at quarterback during gym class or if I skipped swim practice to throw touchdowns during winter scrimmages.
"Point-Blank-Period"
You'd have to have double-digit passes
in a game to get alot of pass protection highlights. That doesn’t happen very often at B’Ville.

He looks like Mark Schlereth
I don’t like that.

He has the size but I can see why he is a project. He plays real high and lacks the form to play in college for another few yrs.
Philly born and raised with plenty of Orange in my blood!
I thought the same thing. His footwork is sloppy and he stays really high, especially in pass pro. However, he has a definite mean streak, and he’s good at getting to the second level, and with his size, he can absolutely bury linebackers and safeties in the run game. I think he could end up being a very good player for us.
He has heart but not having right form is a big thing, plus remember the level of competition he was playing against is not top end competition. If you look at the size of those players, they are very not players of the size of PA, or Ohio or even NJ players these days.

Needs to work on his footwork technique
for sure. He’s not going to play for a couple years, but a stronger, faster Nick Robinson can beast in 3 years. Plus he’s a hell of a nice kid.

What I forgot to add
Nick was at SU during the spring for a ton of practices. He’s hitting the playbook early, which is cool to see.
