Many thanks to those who voted in "the dog naming poll" and those who suggested names. In a late charge, "Mookie" squeaked past "Keita" as the fan favorite, winning by 3 votes (26% to 25%). My wife was pleased, telling me that Keita and Mookie were her favorites all along, unfortunately for Mookie fans, she told me that she can't in good conscience name the dog Mookie. Here's our conversation: Her, "I'm just afraid that if we name him Mookie, he'll be lazy." Me, "Lazy? Mookie isn't lazy!" Her, "I don't know, what do you call a dog who never gets up off the bench, just sits there and mopes." Me, "Zing." Her, "Keita may not end up being the prettiest dog, but you know she's going to be real active and run around a lot. Besides, if we name her 'Mookie' I just feel like a bunch of people who don't really understand dogs, will constantly be questioning why she's not playing more." Me, "I guess we want a dog that does more than one thing pretty well." Her, "We want a dog that does more than one thing well and doesn't spend all her time imagining that she does many many things well." Me, "But the people have voted." Her, "Probably the same people who call WAER after games and say we'd be winning if Boeheim knew what he was doing, ie playing Mookie in crunch time. Boeheim doesn't have to listen to the fans, because it's his team. And this is our dog, so @#$% you and @#$% all the people who voted for Mookie." Me, "I'm weirdly turned on my your ability to carry out this extended metaphor."
So if it's not already clear, it looks like we'll be naming the dog, "KEITA." And I will be getting puppy insurance in case she hurts her left paw.
