You know its funny. I've heard some stories about Fab Melo. Nothing that's worth repeating or that I'm probably allowed to repeat. But, just stories about our favorite Brazilian center and his conduct on campus. I'm not saying that I expected to find out that Fab Melo was arraigned in Syracuse City Court on a criminal mischief charge on Wednesday morning. I'm just sayin'...
Fab Melo pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge. His attorney, Gary Sommer, said that Melo appeared in court voluntarily.
He is accused of damaging a piece of a female SU student’s car. The student has filed an order of protection against the SU player.
So, um, not good. Not only does a Syracuse basketball player now basically have a restraining order against him, but its from a fellow Syracuse student, which likely means the SU Judicial Board will get involved.
Bernie Fine was on hand with Fab for his in court, so that's good. Fine has the legal right to overthrow any court in Onondaga County.*
Let's see where this goes...
Update: Syracuse.com has the deets...
Court papers say the charges are based on an incident that took place at 2:15 p.m. Monday at 341 Slocum Heights.
Melo is accused of reaching through the open driver's side window of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, and breaking the turn signal control arm making the turn signal, headlight high beam control and windshield wiper control inoperable.
Melo will appear back in court June 14th after entering a plea of not guilty.
Update 2: Fab Melo's attorney specializes in DWI and Traffic cases, which seems strange given the charge.
