Today's installment of "Get To Know Your Orange Man" takes a look at newly returned tight end Beckett Wales.
Player: Beckett Wales
Number: #97
Position: Tight End
Year: Sophomore
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 233
Hometown: Venice, FL
High School: Venice High School
2010 Stats: 4 Receptions, 31 Yards (19yd Long)
2011 Projections: Wales missed the entire spring, taking a leave of absence to deal with family issues. Unfortunately for us, this means there is very little to go off of to predict what kind of an impact Beckett will have this season. However, tight end is one of our shallowest positions, so expect to see him on the field.
How'd He Get Here: Wales was recruited by former SU assistant Stan Drayton, and cited playing time, and really fitting in at Syracuse with the team and the University, as a reason for choosing SU.
What did Scout/Rivals Say?: Both rated Wales as a two-star recruit. Scout.com listed him as the 57th rated tight end in the country in 2010.
Money Quote: "I used to live in North Carolina on Outer Banks...We had the Gulf Stream and the hurricanes would come up the coast. I loved the lightning, the storms, the wind. The first time I saw a water spout, I couldn't do anything but drop my mouth. Ever since then, its ... 'Is it going to rain tomorrow? Ask Beckett. He'll know.' I love it." - Beckett, on being Syracuse football's version of Storm.
Links Of Wonder: Nolan Weidner makes the announcement that Wales will be returning in the summer to SU.
"He is a really a good player...He runs well, and he put a lot of weight on and continued to run well. He runs good routes, has good hands and is a tough kid. I’m very excited about him. He’s as good as anyone in that class." - syracuse.com
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Beckett's middle name is Wolf and he is majoring in meteorology, and dreams of becoming a tornado chaser. Aside from that, he's not a very interesting kid.
