Syracuse lost an exhibition game on a day when they played LeMoyne.
Before you start convulsing with that old familiar feeling, know that I'm talking about lacrosse and we beat LeMoyne. Breathe...
The Syracuse Lacrosse team hosted two scrimmages Saturday and wile the did beat LeMoyne 10-5, they dropped the other one to Hofstra 6-5.
The Pride, which defeated Le Moyne 8-5 in the day's opening scrimmage, appeared to have the kinks ironed out early vs. Syracuse, dominating the action and taking a 2-0 lead before SU even gained possession. Hofstra won all theee faceoffs in the quarter and scored on goals by Lincoln and Brad Loizeaux. SU's best chance came on a clearing feed to backup longstick midfielder Gairet Myers, who got behind the riders but was stoned by Hofstra goalie Andrew Gvozden. Miller later scored as the horn sounded to end the quarter, but the goal was waved off as failing to beat the clock.
Syracuse shook off the cobwebs in the second quarter, scoring three times in a five-minute flurry (Miller, Josh Amidon and Stephen Keogh), but the offense hibernated from there.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the outcome, this wasn't about winning and losing. It was about getting rid of the off-season rust and working out the kinks. Something the Orange are still going to have to work on.
"I think defensively we were a little slow and offensively certainly weren’t happy with the output in the first game," SU coach John Desko said. "It seemed that as the day went on we got a little bit better with things."
