Hands Off Our Canadian Recruits, Akron

Stay connected for news and updates

The whole Syracuse/Akron recruiting thing is seriously starting to border the Lincoln/Kennedy legend in terms of weird coincidences. I wouldn't be surprised to find out Doug Marrone's assistant's last name is Akron and if Akron could afford to hire assistants for its coaches I'm sure their last names would be Marrone.

It would be one thing if it were isolated in one specific year but that's no longer the case. So many players from the 2011 Class had dalliances with the Zips, Shutang Mungwa, Ashton Broyld, Robert Trudo..all danced with Zippy devil. DeFarrel Davis, who didn't qualify for the Orange academically...he's now getting interest from Akron.

Then there's 2012 recruit Ben Barrett, who was getting vibes from Akron. And he's from our own backyard!

At least it was contained to American talent. When we venture north of the border, at least then we know that those MAC villains won't follow us in an attempt to poach what's ours.

What's that?......SONOFA....

Eli Ankou is an under-the-radar prospect at the moment, primarily because he plays high school football in Canada.

Ankou is preparing for his senior year at St. Peter Catholic High School in Orleans, Ontario, and is doing whatever he can to get his name out there. Ankou said he will attend camps at Iowa State, Rutgers, Syracuse and Pittsburgh this summer, and may attend a camp at Boston College as well.

The 6-foot-3, 252-pounder plays fullback, defensive end and linebacker, but said he'll likely play defense in college. Although he's still waiting for his first verbal offer, Iowa, Texas A&M, Akron and Pittsburgh are among the schools that have shown interest. St. Peter Catholic assistant coach Victor Tedondo said Akron is the school that's been the most aggressive.

STOP BEING AGGRESSIVE, AKRON! Get your meat hooks off of him!
