Jim Brown is arguably the greatest football player, lacrosse player and all-around athlete in Syracuse history. His post-athletic career has been spotty at time, to say the least, but we recognize what he did for SU. The least of which was helping to get Ernie Davis attend Syracuse and carry on the tradition of 44.
I saw that Bud Poliquin penned a birthday note to Jim today. Before reading the article, I decided to take a stab at what word would be included. Assuming what I know of Bud and his flowery prose, these were my choices:
chisled, rock-hard, Adonis, perfect, undulating, nature, greek god(s), musculature, rippling, penetrating, Sampson, specimen.
Turns out, I don't know Jack. Or Bud. I only got one word right.
Will he ever be more than that near-perfect physical specimen who embarrassed so many of his Syracuse University football teammates by merely removing his shirt in the Orange locker room?
Plus, that's such a weird thing to say.
I was wrong about Adonis, Sampson and Greek Gods, but i was in the ballpark:
Make that, Jim Brown -- the human being born on an island off the coast of Georgia (where he may well have choked a couple of snakes, Hercules-style, as a toddler in bed for all we know) on Feb. 17, 1936 -- is 75.
Happy Birthday, Jim. May many creepy love letters from Bud still be ahead of you.
