Check out this blurb from ESPN Rumors:
UConn's RB situation
With Jordan Todman off to the NFL, rising senior Robbie Frey was expected to take over as Connecticut's starting RB. But Frey announced on Tuesday that he would be transferring to Division II Kutztown State, near his Pennsylvania hometown, to pursue a graduate degree in teaching.Where does that leave the Huskies? Well, former USC transfer D.J. Shoemate, a rising senior who had a severe case of fumbleitis last fall, figures to be the default starter, because even if new coach Paul Pasqualoni prefers a long-term solution rather than a one-season stopgap, the depth chart is far from inspiring.
Rising senior Jonathan Jean-Louis and rising sophomore Martin Hippolyte both split time between RB and LB last fall; redshirt freshman Lyle McCombs is listed at 5-foot-8, 163 pounds and is indefinitely suspended after being arrested for marijuana possession last month; and incoming recruits Max DeLorenzo (one star) and Deshon Foxx (no stars) don't exactly scream instant impact.
It didn't seem likely last fall, but Shoemate might actually get his wish to be a feature back.
Is "rising" the opposite of redshirting? Did I miss an announcement there? Seriously. At first, I thought it was just poor writing... but now I think I am missing out on something.
Also...Frey looked decent against us. I was looking forward to seeing him run up the middle 20 times against us this year.
