The men's program continues its preseason march back to dominance. The Orange will be the No. 1 team in the land when the season begin, according to the NIKE/Inside Lacrosse preseason media rankings. Syracuse snared 293 points and 10 first-place votes (out of 15). Virginia came in a close-second with 283 points and four first-place votes. The rest of the Top 5 is your usual ACC lovefest with No. 3 UNC, No. 4 Maryland and No. 5 Duke.

The Big East clocks in with No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 15 Georgetown and No. 20 Villanova.

Johns Hopkins begins the season at No. 11 and will likely move up to No. 2 regardless of whether they win or lose their opening game...

Over in the USILA Division I Coaches Poll, the Orange start out at No. 2 in the nation behind Virginia. The Cavs received 8 first-place votes and 216 total points while the Orange got 3 first-place votes and 211 votes.

Notre Dame is No. 7 in this poll, along with No. 15 Georgetown. No Nova in this one.

It's not just the men that are up near the top of the rankings. The SU Women's Lacrosse team looks to continue its run of good fortune under Gary Gait in 2011. They'll open the year ranked No. 5 in the deBeers Women's Media Poll. For good measure, Georgetown is No. 6.

The Hoyas, however, were selected as the preseason Big East favorite by two points over the Orange. Harrumph.

Defending champion Maryland is your No. 1 while long-time powerhouse Northwestern is No. 2.
