Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

My idiot cousin (AndyKinsella) and myself...

Greetings fellow "Nunesmen". Andy Kinsella (who is my cousin, please don't hold that against me) and myself think that 4 days between games is far too long especially with this year's version of "Boeheim's Boys". In light of all the recent media attention and off the court issues...I just want to get back to talking basketball. So, I came up with the idea of a "Fantasy Draft" of current and former Orange(men) who have graced the beloved Carrier Dome Court.

Rules:

They have to be in our modern day era - for us... it was basically from '82-'83 on...

12 players to each team

whomever drafted first, the next team would get the next 2 then rotate 1 for 1.

This is what we came up with: Would love feedback, substitutes, etc...

Andy's Team: "Team Orange" (he had the first pick and in order)

+positions next to names indicate starters

1.) Derrick Coleman -PF

2.) Pearl - PG

3.) GMac - SG

4.) Etan Thomas - C

5.) Wes Johnson - SF

6.) Kris Joseph

7.) Dion Waiters

8.) AO

9.) CJ Fair

10.) Donte Green (yes, I killed him on this pick)

11.) Danny Schayes

12.) Greg Monroe

My team "Team Blue" (appropriately named) had two picks in the first round

1.) Carmelo Anthony - SF

2.) Sherman Douglas - PG

3.) Hakim Warrick - PF

4.) Lawrence Moten

5.) Rony Seikley - C

6.) Billy Owens

7.) Stevie Thompson- SG (strictly for defense on Gerry) Box and 1

8.) John Wallace

9.) Jonny Flynn

10.) Josh Pace

11.) Red Bruin

12.) Andy Rautins

Let the debating begin.... substitutes, notable players left off, who would win. etc...

Yes, we are idiots and kind of bored...

Team Orange wins

BTW, no Preston Shumpert?

I take him over Andy Rautins as a 3 point specialist

You keep chanting one more year, I thought college was four years

by PointBlankPeriodPeriod on Dec 9, 2011 4:42 PM EST reply actions

Douglas, Owens, Moten and Wallace? C'mon. Hands down they win in walk.

You are talking about one of the best college point guards ever …. EVER … in Douglas. You are talking about Owens, a high school and college legend. Moten? All time BE leasing scorer. Wallace, was just Superman his senior year.

… Oh and that Carmelo guy was pretty good the one year he played.

by NoXCUSE99 on Dec 9, 2011 5:20 PM EST reply actions

Funny....

Ownes and Moten coming off of my bench!

Stevie would absolutely shut down Gerry ( and I love Gerry)

My team would have issues with Coleman, Hakim would have to guard him and we all know the Melo was great but not all that excited to play defense.

TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH choice from me

But I picked team Blue. I feel like they would be the most fun to watch with Flynn, Rautins, Melo, Wallace, and Rony being a fun 5 to watch.

Team Orange

is going too current for my liking.

Players I’d think about adding:
Addison
Dave Johnson
Adrian Autry
Laz Sims
Marius Janulis
Jason Hart
Ryan Blackwell
Damone Brown
Preston Shumpert
Craig Forth (Yes, I’d probably add him, he started every game for a reason)
Demitrius Nichols
Darryl Watkins
Eric Devendorf
Rick Jackson

My team probably doesn’t come close to the other two, but I think they could hold their own. Of course I had the advantage of looking back through the years to find players, and yes, I do have 14 as well

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

by PoetryInMoten on Dec 9, 2011 6:50 PM EST reply actions

would you start

PG Sims
SG Devendorf
SF Shumpert
PF Rick Jackson
C Craig Forth

That’s a solid team, but I don’t think they could handle either other starting 5…

btw, did you know that Preston Shumpert is Mert Shumpert now?

I'd agree

There’s no way my team would be able to handle either of the above two, but I don’t think it’d be a blowout.

Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10

Had no idea about the name change to Mert

Found this turkish article explaining his name change and as soon as I learn to speak turkish I’ll be sure to read it:

http://www.gazete5.com/haber/preston-shumpert-turk-vatandasi-oldu-10-aralik-201-66149.htm

Mert Shumpert… sounds like one of ODB’s alter-egos.

clearly google translate needs to brush up on its Turkish as well
Beko Basketball League teams, Galatasaray Cafe American actor Preston Shumpert Crown’da midfielder, was a Turkish citizen

Besiktas Cola Turka in Turkey, the shining star of the jersey and then showing the same performance Shumpert Efes Pilsen, a Turkish citizen, has been attempted to be. The experienced player in the Turkish passport and identity card, Galatasaray Cafe Crown View under shirt with the name Shumpert will continue his career in Turkey.

In the meantime, Mert Shumpert, according to the regulations at season’s end despite the Turkish citizen to pass the status of foreign players wear shirts.

Congrats to Mert Shumpert for becoming a citizen of Turkey and wearing a shirt (I hope it was orange).

Thanks for the support guys!!!

I drafted team Blue!!!!

@ Poetry… I was saying the same thing to him.

@ PointBlank I was thinking bt….Wendel Alexis, Shumpert and Andy. I wanted to get a “local” guy bc Jimmy B always seems to have one.

I like Team Orange's depth at center

Etan Thomas, AO and Danny Schayes…SOLID.

No depth at the five spot on Team Blue…if Seikaly gets into foul trouble, I guess you slide Hak into the middle…

And Lord have mercy on any team that has to face a GMac-Pearl backcourt.

This is tough. I guess I’m going with Team Blue…Melo, Moten, Owens, Wallace and Hak…too much awesome.

Yeah..

I was thinking that after the fact when we were talking about it. Wallace would have to play the 5.

You have to be under 18 yrs old or a moron to pick the orange team.

Seriously.

Dion? CJ? Wes? Donte? Andy? Red? … Against some serious college basketball, Big East legends? Hell, Wallace schools some of those guys in the exhibition. Coleman is a Dream Teamer and a legend, and I don’t discount what GMAC did or meant t the team, but lets be real. You are riding the short bus if you pick names like Dion and Donte, etc.

by NoXCUSE99 on Dec 9, 2011 9:00 PM EST reply actions

I'm a moron.

It’s “fantasy” so I’m assuming Donte plays defense.
For 1 year Wes was one of the best players we’ve had.
Dion is a big, strong guard that has learned how to play great defense in the zone. I think he would be effective against anyone.
Seikely would foul out trying to guard A.O..
CJ just gets it done.
I don’t think I have to defend Pearl or Coleman.
When this started it was “who would win in a game?”. I wasn’t picking my favorites, necessarily, just tried create match-up problems. And with a heavy influence on defense.

Either way, it would be a fun game to watch.

Side note: Team Blue is coached by Boeheim (Mike picked that) so good luck hoping for that box and 1 on GMac. Zone all the way. Even while he continues to get open looks.

Love the guard match-up - Sherm and the Pearl.

Sherm was always one upping Pearl though. Even took his job in Miami.

I loved it throughout Sherm’s NBA career he was always one of those salary guys included in trades, but when he got to the new team within a month he was the starting PG…

Senior year Seikaly would destroy AO.

AO was solid but Seikely played a DECADE in the League

Rony Seikely used to play Ewing to a near standoff in the early Big East. I had a bet around the NBA draft, with my buddy who was a big Knicks fan at that time, that Seikely would get a ring before Patrick…

You need Leo and Andy on the same team

For fantasy bingo.

Anyone to watch a game with those two on the same team would die of alcohol poisoning.

Read Rule #1

HELLO?

I personally have never seen Dave Bing play (I am 33) and he was my 2nd pick behind Melo…

“HELLO”????

Louis and Bouie were part of the Manley Fieldhouse days or they would be on the list as would Greg Khols, Denis Duvall, Lee Brothers

I think Andy was better than Leo.

Santifer was good but again a little too early for me to pick him.

My earliest memories were Pearl, Wendell, Red Bruin, Andre Hawkins, etc…

Go Orange!

Team Blue is very weak down low and that would be their downfall. Orange has depth at every position and an overwhelming advantage at the 4 and 5. Team Orange 72-67.

By "very weak"

You mean with “All-Americans” in Warrick and Seikaly? Oh and by the way, I have the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ALL-TIME Leading Rebounders in History and by downfall… I’m sure you meant “strength”.

Cuz. You get smoked in this game. Sorry

is at the end of the day Moten is going to have 22 points…

Great point...

and at least 3 “hanging in the air shots, draw the foul, sink before his right foot touches the court, +1” shot

My all-leftover team: Team White

C: Conrad McRae, Otis Hill, Leron Ellis
PF: Wendell Alexis, Damone Brown, Ryan Blackwell
SF: Rafael Addison, Dave Johnson
SG: Erich Santifer, Marius Janulis
PG: Lazarus Sims, Jason Hart

And I may just beat Team Orange.

Dictated, but not read.

SG: Santifer

Bench:
Shumpert – 6 man
Otis Hill
Rick Jackson
