Good Luck Chandler! Hoped you would stay but...

Selfishly, I would like to see Chandler Jones stay another year for the sake of the SU football team. But, I can’t really blame him for wanting to leave. He put in his time and gave SU his all. I think he will be a good NFL prospect, and his brother is already there. So I wish him the best of luck and hope represents the ’Cuse well in the League.

Too bad

This is too bad for us, yet very exciting for Chandler. I wish him the best of luck, now we need to get the scholarship filled with a DE.

It begs the bigger question. Is it me or is the stink around this current SU football program growing by the day? It seems that marginal NFL draft material (Chandler, Graham, #SHAMARKO) are all to willing to bolt. I hope this isn’t a sign that we are in for another 5-7 year with this program or worse. I don’t want to have to start thinking about a new HC, but my confidence in Doug Marrone is about as low as it has ever been.

I guess

You know. I am beginning to wonder if this is a problem with Shafer. His defenses force the DE to focus on occupying blocks so that the LBs and blitzing DBs get the glory (sacks). While a Dwight Freeney would dominate in any system… guys like Chandler that are a step down from that might not put up the #’s.

Not trying to be negative. Just wondering why someone wouldn’t want to dominate college football before setting out for the NFL.

Good point that I've never really thought about.

Similar to Caper’s scheme in Green Bay. LBs and DBs get all the TFL and Sacks. The lineman don’t get much play other than gap control and stopping the run, which isn’t as fun as just rushing the QB every down.

Control of locker room

It mentioned in the article that Marrone lost control of the locker room. I never heard about that. Anyone else? Thats not a good sign.

You could see it the last 3 or so games. Sometimes if you watched the sidelines, players were yelling at each other and pushing. It didn’t look good when I was seeing it.

Locker room

I’ll give you a first hand response to that, as I’ve been asked that via Twitter.

After the WVU victory and as SU began to lose games, there were a few times in postgame presser that Marrone and players, mainly Nassib, hinted that there was a split on how the team handled success. As the season got worse, the problem in the locker room seemed to not get better, which (not official but speculation here) led to some of the late-season issues suspensions.

Of course, SU’s on-field play also made it clear that coaches-players were not on the same page. I am not saying Marrone is all to blame for this, as it is hard for a chef to cook good food with bad ingredients, but it was Marrone’s kitchen and he deserves some of the blame.

Any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Well

if he is being told 3rd round pick… that is pretty decent. Awful hard for most teams to cut 3rd rounders.

We’ll see who else comes out though. The really good teams have not played their bowl games yet. Juniors have yet to announce, etc.
