There is no set amount of teams that can make this playoffs. There could be 10 or there could be 20.
1) If you win your conference your in. BCS conference of course. So theres 6 teams
2) If you go undefeated your in, which opens it up for Boise/Houston/Hawaiis of the past (this is why the number of teams in the playoff is flexable)
3) “Wild Card” teams will be added. There will be 4 of these. Possibly 5 to make it an even number of teams because an odd amount of teams went undefeated. ( Voted on by all the coaches, This would open up teams like Alabama and Oklahoma and VT this year)
After that its just regular playoffs. Highest in BCS standings out of those teams play lowest and so on. If there are 16 teams its easy to make playoff bracket, if not byes will be given out accordingly to make it easy..
If this were to happen I think it would work perfectly. The regular season is still important because you have to win your conference or go undefeated, or, be voted in by other coaches
Only argument would be that 1) you wouldnt know the exact number of teams in the tourney until very late in the year which causes problems with TV and Stadium arrangements and 2) Teams could still get mad at not being the wild card team. But then it just turns into something like March Madness. You had your shot, could have done better. I guess instead of having the coaches vote it could just be the next 4 teams in the standings that dont include undefeated/confrence winner are in.. either way would work.
That would make it this year be
1) LSU (SEC)
2 Ok ST (Big 12)
3) Oregon (Pac 12)
4) Wisconsin (Big 10)
5) Clemson (ACC)
6) WVU ( Big East)
7) Alabama (Wild Card)
8) Stanford (Wild Card)
9) Boise St ( Wild Card)
10) Arkansas (Wild Card)
Undefeated teams would go inbetween the Conference winners and the Wild Cards. So say Houston had won their final game. They would be the 7 seed. And a 5th wildcard team would then be added to make a 12 team playoff. Which this year I guess would be VT or Michigan or someone along those lines.
The Bracket would look something like this
there will be 2 play in games to see who gets seed 7/8 and then its a normal 8 team bracket from there.
This is the best option in my opinion. Gives small schools a shot, even Boise with there one loss would most likely have made it in as a wild card, and Arkansas wouldnt have gotten robbed from their great season as well.. GET IT DONE NCAA
