Syracuse Safety Phillip Thomas Suspended For One Year, Orange Career Possibly Done
Update: Thomas tells Andrew Pregler that he is going pro. "I will be heading to the NFL draft."
Syracuse Athletics, you have had better weeks.
We knew that Syracuse Orange starting safety Phillip Thomas was going to be suspended. What we didn't realize is that he has been suspended for an entire year after violating an SU Athletics policy.
Syracuse junior free safety Phillip Thomas has been suspended from the football program for one year for a violation of Athletics Department Policy.
As for what exactly he did and what policy he violated, SU isn't saying, yet. Drug tests have been mentioned at length in the rumor mill.
Basically, that probably means his career at Syracuse is over. What's the point of sticking around if he's only gonna get to play in 2-3 games next season?
As a reminder, Thomas led the Orange in tackles (82) and leads the Big East in interceptions (6) this season.
Jeremi Wilkes will likely get the start at safety when the Orange host the Cincinnati Bearcats next week. Olando Fisher will likely see some playing time at the spot as well.
It's a crushing blow to a defense already reeling and it's a massive loss for Syracuse football in general. I'm sure we'll learn more over the next few days. Sit tight and SMH at will.

There are days. There are weeks...Then there's this.
When days suck like this, something good gotta come out of it….I hope.
What does Syracuse do...SHUT IT DOWN. Nuff said.
He still could be redshirted next year
Doubtful that he’d want to stick around that long, but still a possibility I guess.
Bad week and huge loss for next season.

Can we just erase this week from SU history? Please?
Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

so how about Goodell enforcing his suspension if he goes to the NFL
like they did with Pryor
F#&% the Big East
dammit
i wish i had a fellow syracuse fan down here in texas to vent my frustrations to.
My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable.
Houston here.
Let’s get together and cry into some beers. I have several Middle Ages brews in my fridge right now…
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
I can't decide whether to throw myself on the Houston bandwagon
GameDay is at UH right now. Oh, and yeah, Middle Ages is a good call.

I figure I'll root for them in any bowl game assuming they don't line up opposite SU.

The "Behind the Face Mask Jinx"....
… shortly after doing the video with Lamar Lobdell this happens. I wonder who the next player to be featured is.
God, am I gonna have to keep track of that now?

Yeah, this week.....
didn’t need to happen.
But I do want to know what the hell he was doing that led to this.

Can someone explain
How that is an athletics policy violation?

When he asked if he takes drugs, Philip Thomas replied quickly:
“Everyday”
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
peeing in the cup
probably didn’t have enough “clean” urine. Should have asked Trevor Cooney for some
steroids? haven't heard anything to back this up
and don’t want to start another rumor lacking any facts whatsoever. But, could this be a positive test for steroids? Just can’t think of anything else that would get you kicked off the team for so long, but not kicked out of school.
We'll be OK
I just have a feeling that this team will rally around the situation and beat Cincinnati. Don’t ask me for objective reasons. This one is purely subjective. We saw this team beat Rutgers undermanned a few years ago. If G-Rob could beat Notre Dame four years ago, Marrone and company have it in them to beat Cincy…
Dictated, but not read.

I mentioned this idea yesterday
We seemed to play a bit more cohesive when our “leaders” were out.

Retire #1
With the way that the SU careers of Mike Williams and Phillip Thomas ended I say we should stop issuing that number. Stop the curse of 1
