What's up with Ryan Nassib?
Is anyone concerned about the recent trend in the poor play of Nassib? It seems to me that after he took that shot to the face in the Rutgers game that he has been much less effective. Is he hurt? Has he become gun-shy? Is he putting too much pressure on himself? Is it temporary or is he beyond "repair"? I'm not sure how good any of the back-ups are but I hope that Marrone has somebody ready to step in if this trend continues. It certainly won't help Nassib's confidence or ability if he is forced to continue the way he's played recently. Any thoughts??

Slow down.
Is it temporary or is he beyond “repair”?
He had a couple of off-games. Let’s get past the bye-week and into conference play before we freak out. And for what it’s worth he still had a couple nice throws and some heads up plays on Saturday. The over-the-shoulder drop-in to Graham was beautiful for example. Nassib is going to be just fine and I would still take him over every Big East QB not named Geno Smith at this point.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
ditto
Outside of 3-4 questionable tosses, I think most of it was still on the receivers not stepping up their game. Lemon, Chew, and Graham all had their share of drops on tosses that could have been caught.
I saw him overshoot Provo in the end zone, overshoot someone else (Lemon/Chew) underthrow to Graham once, and one other I cant recall now.
Otherwise I think he did just fine. Its starting to look like last year, where Nassib had targets and opportunity but no one there to finish the play.
I'm not panicking, just wondering what others think...
I have made no judgement on this, but I’m a little concerned. As for Geno Smith, I think he is great if he gets into a rhythm, but seems to lose it if he is faced with pressure. Last year, we got to him early and he became very ineffective… I hope we can do the same this year, but it looks doubtful since our D-line has not shown much ability to penetrate. It could be a long day for our porous secondary… time will tell!
Geno has looked like a completely new QB this year.
But you are right, with pressure he cracked last year so perhaps that is still true. If Chan comes back with a vengeance maybe we can make him sweat.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
Here's what's up
Nassib is the starter and no one else is even close to being ready to take that job from him. His passing numbers haven’t been great the last 2 weeks, but vs. Tulane he had two TDs passes and picked up another TD and a key first down with his legs. I wouldn’t call it a complete bounce-back game, but it was good enough for a win.
Nassib had some bad throws vs Tulane, but didn’t throw any picks. Any amount of turnovers would have sank our defense, so kudos to him (and Bailey) for that.
WRs also dropped a couple passes as well, which is more of a concern to me. O-line looked shoddy all game, had some terrible penalties, allowed 2 sacks, not counting the Nassib fumble (which he recovered). Given the lack of protection I’d say Nassib’s performance was decent.

that is what's up

It's mostly the WRs
I’m not laying eveything on them. Nassib has certainly missed them at times. But more often, they’ve dropped balls. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike any of the receivers or the groups a a whole. There just isn’t a star among them that opponent’s have to individually game-plan for; a player who can make plays regardless of of the coverage and draws attention, leaving spaces for everyone else. I’m not saying that they need to me Mohammed Sanu, but they could use someone a half-step below that caliber.

I thought the WRs were pretty decent
None of the bonehead drops where a guy is wide open, it hits him in the hands, and drops it.
Some of Nassib’s passes were just way off. There were 4 or 5 that were uncatchable by Calvin Johnson.
A few more Nassib deliberately threw where they couldn’t be caught by our WR or anyone else, which was probably good judgment on his part.
I think he needs a week off.
Dictated, but not read.
We've played
6 straight weeks. We’re in desperate need of a week off. Ryan takes the next two weeks to regroup, watch some film and comes back to be ready for the rest of the season. Not too worried about anythign right now. We’re still on pace for a bowl game. Sure it might not be the BCS, but we just need to focus on baby steps at the moment.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
GOD POINT!!
not only have they played 6 games in 6 weeks, they have traveled to the west coast for a late night game (which, BTW, would be 3 hrs later on “their” clock), noon games and another travel game with an 8 o’clock start… that’s gotta have some impact, even for a 20 yr old!!
With you OrangeNutz.
I am not sure what the issues are or that I am really concerned that much but I too noticed that Nassib seems more anxious the past two games. I am sure the reasons others have posted on here are all part of it and I look forward to seeing how he plays after the bye week. Hopefully great!!! Go ’CUSE!!!
Its tough to see the forest for the trees sometimes
Before anyone criticizes Ryan Nassib, two things need to be made clear:
1.) He is the best QB Syracuse has had since McNabb
2.) In the next 1.5 seasons, he may be second only to McNabb in terms of performance during his career, based on the last 40 years of Syracuse QB history. He would surpass Marvin Graves and Don McPherson.
Nassib is still quietly coming up the charts in the SU QB stat sheet. His two first-half touchdown passes moved him past Troy Nunes into fourth on the SU career list. He now has 33 touchdowns."
Currently, Ryan Nassib has 4050 passing yards and 33 touchdowns.
Marvin Graves:
Total passing yards : 8,466 yards
Passing Touchdowns: 48
All-time passing yardage leader at Syracuse (8,466), His 48 touchdown tosses rank second in program history.
Donovan McNabb:
Total passing yards : 8,389 yards
Passing Touchdowns: 77
Total rushing yards: 1,561 yards
Rushing touchdowns 19
Don McPherson:
Total passing yards : 5,812 yards
Passing Touchdowns: 46
Total rushing yards: 1,583 yards
Rushing touchdowns 18
All in all, Id say he has an excellent chance at passing McPherson, and probably catching up to Graves, but I certainly dont think he could get to Donovan’s superstar level – 77 touchdowns? Thats insane now that I look at that stat. So, behind McNabb, Nassib could more than likely end up the contender for our second best QB after McNabb.
Nassib would have to throw 2.5 touchdowns per game in every game for the rest of his career to even match McNabb, and I don’t think that’s happening. However, even if he doesn’t quite match the yardage, he could easily beat Graves and McPherson for passing TD’s, and I think its reasonable to think he could hit 7500-8000 passing yards in his career if he starts in every game until the end of next season.
Its sick to think that those guys were ALL Heisman contenders and an NFL starter, so he would be in some pretty elite company.
I guess in the end the more important stat is TDs than passing yards
Cause isn’t that the point of passing yards? So either way, Id say the kids got a shot at ending up being something pretty special here at SU. For being an unheralded 2 star recruit (from rivals and scout), he is slowly starting to really impress.
Please use all these stats to rebuff all the Nassib haters out there at will.

If Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician...
does that now make Ryan Nassib an Unquestionable Sorcerer?

Copy and paste much?
J/k, nice work. Please do keep this updated as the season rolls on.
