Another Uniform Change! This time for the better...

PrintReally liking the new Uni's this year. Reminds me of the "good ole days" in going old school. Another step in the right direction...hell, maybe Doug will bring back #44. I think we are finally off of everyone's top 10 list of CF ugliest uniforms. The boys at Nike and Syracuse finally got it right.
Sean, here's an idea for a topic on a slow day... you should go through and post pictures of our recent uniform changes throughout the years. Would be kind of cool to see side by side.

I agree.
I liked the uniforms from last year but these are definitely better. Very classy. I was nervous when I heard there would be piping as I feel a lot of teams have gone piping crazy. Our piping is used sparingly, though, and in a place that makes sense. Love the orange and white shoes, too. I hope we keep these for a while.

remove the S from the helmet and bring back the old school solid orange!

Debate...
My cousin and I (both huge, long time SU fans as we all are here) were debating the same thing on Saturday. I brought up the point in the “new and improved uniforms” and that they resembled the late early to mid 90’s and I said they needed to get rid of the block “S” too but he said that he liked it and kind of grew on him. After looking at it closely, the block “S” seemed to be tweeked from 4-5 years ago when it was a huge block S. It’s better now that it’s smaller but I agree get rid of it.
It could be worse. At one point we had white helmets with a “football shape oval that said SU” in the middle…

That was disgusting. For all the crap SU gets for changing uni’s every year, VT seems like they have 30 different alternate uni’s. The uni’s on both sides looked like they belonged in the Arena leagues or in a bad football movie. Horrid.
As for the block S…I like it. Though I like our uniform change this season, they are very easy to get confused with UVA or Illinois. We need something well defined that sets us apart. Love it or hate it, I don’t think the block S is going anywhere for awhile.

upon second reflection
I think the theme of the Boise St – VT game was to field uniforms that were as obnoxious as their collective fanbases.
Boise State wins…in both categories.

I did see V. Tech/Boise St.
It was an abomination. For one thing, I hate asymmetry on uniforms (though there are very few exceptions, mostly in basketball). Uniforms are something you shouldn’t try to get too cute with. The simpler the better usually. That’s why I like the new SU unis. They stripped away most of the garbage and are left with a classy football uniform.
And for the record, I love the block “S” on the helmets. Makes us look like “not the Browns”. Also, the players talk about wearing the “S” on the helmet with pride. I like that.

and it’s much better than the numbers on the helmets, which I didn’t like at all.

Helmets...
I would prefer the Orange Lid with the blue numbers on the side… that harken back to the 50’s? or ’60’s?…. the same style which we used a few years ago, for a year or two…
If we have to stick with the Block S… I would prefer it to be even smaller than it is now…

Anti-Concussion Helmet..
I think may be a reason the S went even smaller this year maybe an optical illusion… remember back in 06/07 the S was huge? If we decide to keep it, I too would prefer it to be a bit smaller but not too small. I actually didn’t like the numbers on the helmet from about 7 years back.
Bloodyyank44- I do agree, we need something to distinguish ourselves from Illinois. I think UVA changed their uni’s this year to a very basic look with “weird” combinations. Blue jersey/white pants etc…

But judging by that, love the new unis. I think the S could use a little tweaking. Or experiment with something else. I always liked the solid orange, but I guess I’m being won over.
Did we always have grey facemasks? I kind of remember them being blue? I think the grey works ‘cause it’s like the 49ers etc.
But would love to see a comparison breakdown.
Boise St. - Va. Tech
Just a note guys, I think the Va Tech uni’s were some special gimmick Nike rolled out to honor Veterans, hence the camouflage undershirts. Not sure about Boise… I kinda liked ’em, though.
