Independence
You know, with BYU going independent, it makes me wonder whether we will see a reversal of course... with schools like Texas, USC, and Florida considering their independence. Unlike the Big 10 schools, these schools do not gain an academic benefit from their institutions. The Big 10 has an academic consortium that is a huge moneymaker for Big 10 schools. The ACC and Pac-10 may have smaller versions. The SEC, Big 12, and Big East do not.
How funny would it be if this thing heads in a direction where conferences are no longer relevant at all???
In other news, I have suggested that the Big East add Central Florida, Houston, Memphis, and East Carolina (or TCU, if possible). Houston was ranked by CBS as 25th in the country this year. That would be 3rd in the Big East. For that market to be added, what a huge "get" that would be.
Anyway, almost time to head to Akron. Go Cuse!!!

Honestly
I was thinking the same thing with Texas earlier today. It’d probably be better for them to abandon the Big 12 and not to go back to a conference. Then they could play OU and A&M every year and pick the remaining games on their schedule. They’d no longer have to play teams such as Iowa State or Colorado unless they really wanted to.
Without Gerry McNamara we wouldn't have won 10 f-- games, not 10
Notre Dame Model
I think you’ve got a good point, but any team considering a move like that would have to make sure they still have a home in a conference for other sports (the Notre Dame Model), because going completely independent would kill that school’s non-revenue sports.
