Call Mookie Jones The Emperor

The Empire State Games have begun in Buffalo and the hottest basketball tournament this side of the King of Kings is under way.  Basketball play kicked off yesterday and Team Hudson Valley took it to Team New York City 90-74 to open things up.  Husdon Valley's offensive onslaught came courtesy of a few guys, but none more impressive than Theodore "Mookie" Jones.  Mookie led the way with 27 points

I'm going to guess he's very happy with his playing time.

Mookie is hoping to lead Hudson back to the ESG title for the first time since 2006.  Hudson takes on Adirondack today.

Woah woah woah

I thought the Empires were high school students only. They allow college athletes in it now?

Mookie is competing in the Open Division

There is also the scholastic division for 17- and the master division for 50+

Not sure about basketball

but the masters division in rugby was 18+ (I got myself a nice silver medal in ’08)

yeah, they don’t have all divisions in all sports, so participants are sometimes allowed from the other levels…

Thanks for the explanation. All I ever heard about the empires were the scholastic level and I didn’t know they had other levels as well

I think a fresh and revitalized Mookie will be in uniform next season ready to earn some playing time the right way, I hope so anyway.

Silver Medal

Mookie scored 27, 9, 24 and then 9 for the games. Hudson Valley came up just short in the medal round, scoring a silver after an 86-81 loss to Western. Mookie average about 15.2 ppg, but I’m sure he was hoping for more in the medal game. Congrats on the silver though!
