Paul Harris, Utah Jazzian: Take 2

Photo

In the 2010 NBA Draft, we knew that one of Syracuse's players would be drafted highly while we wondered if another one would be taken in the 2nd round.  Wes Johnson and Andy Rautins fulfilled the hopes of SU fans but also reminded us of a similar situation in 2009.  Jonny Flynn was the sure-thing but Paul Harris didn't hear his name called on draft night.

A summer league tryout with the Utah Jazz was meant to fix that error but a sever ankle sprain prevented him from being able to play and therefore make the team.  Down to the NBDL it went for Paul as he became the first-ever draft pick of the Maine Red Claws.  Sadly, that injury was worse then expected and he was released before ever playing a game for them.

Sadly, Paul Harris quickly went from "next big thing" to "next horror story" for leaving school too early.  He seemed to disappear and we wondered if he would keep that dream of making it to the NBA alive.  Now it looks like the Jazz are going to see what they can do to help him.

Paul is officially on the Jazz' summer league roster once again.  Utah will play in the Orlando Summer League and Paul will have a chance to face-off against fellow Orangeman Darryl Watkins when the Jazz play the Pacers on July 7th.  Here's hoping the leg is in top condition and Paul can finally showcase himself 100%.

And here's to hoping the 'fro is back as well.

By now

Daryl Watkins could be the leading scorer in NBA summer league history.

I keep hoping Paul Harris will end up an NBA player like Anthony Mason was in the 90s. Undersized PF who gets tons and tons of rebounds. If only he learned to play defense like Anthony Mason.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

If paul didit get blocked

by college kids at the basket, and was 6’7 he would be nicer then anybody almost. Sad story paul was fun to watch. All those missed shots at the rim had me pissed!

After watching Wes play

it is easy to see why Paul was so bummed out all year his last season – he knew the end was nigh…

Hope he makes it, but where’s he been all year? A severe sprain doesn’t take 12 months to heal does it?

It should be a severe ankle sprain

the way you wrote it, it looks like Paul’s ankle fell off when he sprained it.

I wasn't going to say anything

but I thought that was a really funny typo. I guess they were able to reattach his foot.
