Big East Basketball Schedule Set, Another Two-fer With Georgetown

The Big East released its 18-game conference schedules today.  As you know, the schedule is set up to play every team in the conference once with a home-and-home series against three teams.  It's been a learning curve for the Big East in doling out these games.  In terms of historical value, they did alright by Syracuse this time around.  Of course, that doesn't mean they made it easy for us.

Georgetown, Villanova and Seton Hall will be the two-time dance partners in the 2010-2011 season for the defending Big East regular season champs.  Along with that, the home and away match-ups have been set as well.

The Orange's conference home games will be against Cincinnati, DePaul, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Villanova, West Virginia

The away games will be against Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Seton Hall, South Florida and Villanova

Initial thoughts.

  • Glad SU and Georgetown are playing twice a year again.  Seems like the conference finally realized this is a non-negotiable thing that needs to happen.  Why bother having a Big East otherwise?
  • AT Louisville?  F**k you, Big East.  F**k you.
  • Tough road slate.  We get most of the cupcakes at home (DePaul, Cincy, Rutgers).  I don 't like the idea of not having a chance to host the Huskies, Cardinals and Panthers.
  • St. John's is still in the Big East?  Who knew...

The full schedule, along with game dates and times, will be announced shortly.  Tickets will also go on sale soon, though if you want a chance to see the Orange a lot earlier in the season, you can do that now.  Tickets for the Legends Classic in November are on sale now. Taking place November 26th and 27th, the tournament features SU, Michigan, UTEP and Georgia Tech in Atlantic City.  If you're a member of the Syracuse Alumni Clubs of NY, NJ or Philly, you can get a discounted ticket package, contact your Alumni Club rep for details.

You can see the full breakdown of Big East schedules here.

Thank goodness

WV at home. No “keep it classy night” with the mountaineer fans this year. They’ll just have the save the shit-tossing for UCan’t. Hee hee.

Go Orange(men)!

The press release from March for the Legends Classic

touts SU junior Wes Johnson and Georgia Tech freshman Derrick Favors amongst the stars of the upcoming tournament. Heh.

Also, for the hell of it, I looked at “Best Available” tickets for that tourney. Courtside seats are available – COURTSIDE! – for $250/each (plus a ridiculously high $24 convenience charge).

Chill, Sean...

The schedule was practically made up before today. Here’s what it looked like before today

Home: Cincinnati, DePaul, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, West Virginia
Away: Connecticut, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, South Florida and Villanova

The Big East did an incredible job with scheduling. Look at that away schedule! They made it slightly easier by only making us go to Seton Hall. The home schedule was crap, then they did the smartest things ever and gave us Villanova and Georgetown.

one day St. John's will get you, and that pesky orange too...

St. John’s is still in the Big East? Who knew…

What, you don’t enjoy the easy coronation of #1 ranking beatings, or the 30 minute garbage time in Madison Square Garden?
