Entries from Mike G.

1.SU Basketball Player Cards. Complete sets for the 1988-89 season (including Sherman Douglas, Derrick Coleman, Billy Owens, Stevie Thompson and the great ERIK ROGERS, nephew of famed SU alum Al Davis, said to be the reason he got his scholarship!), the 1991-92 season (Dave Johnson, Mike Hopkins, Anthony Harris, Glenn Sekunda...) and the 1992-93 season (Hopkins, the late Conrad McRae, John Wallace, Lazarus Sims...). The last two seasons also have cards for all the players on the Orangewomen,  and coach Barb Jacobs! Mint Condition!

2.  Syracuse University Basketball Trivia--So You Think You Bleed Orange? (Quinlan Press, Boston, 1988) by Hart Seely, Bob Snyder, Tom Flemming and Mike Greenstein. A rare copy of this now out of print (with photos; personally autographed by two of the authors).

3. A piece of the end zone from Archbold Stadium, dug up after the last game played there (a 20-17 victory over Navy, November 1978). Encased in plastic for almost 32 years, the painted orange and blue on the turf are still clearly visible.

Dave Siock

That photo of Dave brought back memories. He was a Civil Engineering major when he was a frosh in ’88. I helped him out the best I could, but he eventually dropped Civil Engineering to major in Math. Nicest guy.

He gave me a towel from the pre-season NIT in MSG with the “DODGE NIT” logo screen printed on it. If I can find it, I may enter it into the contest.

Damn!!

The turf is sweet but those basketball cards blow my mind. Damn Mike Hopkins looks young as hell. Master of the loose ball as he was known back then. I love those jerseys with the cursive “Syracuse”. I wish they’d break them out once or twice a year

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
