Syracuse Memorabilia Entry from Matt C.: Last October my brother Anthony, a Syracuse native, fan, and alum, turned 40. For his birthday I decided that I was going to get him a very special gift, unlike anything he'd ever received before. So in July, months before the Syracuse Football season even began, I sent a letter and blank birthday card to Head Coach Doug Marrone, requesting that he please sign the card. I even went so far as to state my brother's case as to why he should receive a signed card from HCDM. By the way, picking out a birthday card that you are going to send to your brother, but want signed by a local celebrity, is quite difficult. Needless to say, there is no shortage of 40th birthday cards that point out the failures of aging: gaining weight, losing your hair, flatulence, etc... But, none of these would be suitable topics to be read by the man who was charged with turning around the flagging Syracuse Football team, and saw 20+ players leave the team because they couldn't handle his strict rules and regulations. I highly doubted that HCDM would actually sign a card about farting and incontinence. So, I picked out the most suitable card I could find and sent it off to Coach Marrone and hoped for the best. At the very least, I expected to get a form letter back explaining that Coach Marrone was too busy with such matters like recruiting and preparing for the upcoming season to handle such requests. Instead, a few days later, I received my self-addressed stamped envelope, and in it was the birthday card I selected with a very special birthday greeting addressed to my brother. And thankfully, nowhere in the card did Doug Marrone write "Orange Pride". That July day solidified my family's unwavering support for HCDM. If only I had that card with me a few months later when my brother and I saw Greg Paulus at Wegmans in Dewitt...
