I was in the football offices the day this all went down with [Mike] Williams. Marrone TOLD HIM he would call him right after the meeting, so to be prepared to hear a decision after the meeting was over. He was fully aware of what time Marrone would be calling and from what I understand, chose not to answer the phone two different times, then finally got around to calling back later. For what it's worth, that was the word going around that day"

A person who asked to remain anonymous sharing their thoughts on the Mike Williams' did-he-quit-or-didnt-he story. Williams claims the fallout stems from a mis-communication and also from him losing his cellphone.

look

im all for seeing both sides of the story, but Im reading this with two things in mind: 1) a star football player gets cut as much slack as the coach can possibly give him and 2) if your career/scholarship is in jeopardy and something happens to your cell phone, you borrow someone else’s and call the coach immediately – not kick back on south campus and watch reruns of 16 and pregnant.

The only person...

to blame for Mike Williams’ departure from the SU football team is Mike Williams. Marrone saying nothing is more believable than Williams’ side of the story, IMO. Mike had how many chances to continue at SU and still couldn’t get it right? The kid should have been a saint after being let back in. Instead, he slacked on his classwork (hence the 1st suspension) and broke curfew to go to the casino. He had the ability to shape his future. I know he’s just a kid and believe me I did some stupid things when I was young, but I always had to face the music. He chose to avoid the ramifications and just leave the team. Let’s just say Mike has some maturing to do.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
