Around SBN: The Week In Worst: When Baseball Goes Wrong

According to the Facebook post, tonight is the world premiere of "A Game in the Life," a documentary about "a young man's journey to strive to win every aspect of his life." It chronicles Greg Paulus as he plays in the Syracuse-Rutgers game last season. The free screening is at 8 pm at the Hergenhan Auditorium and this is apparently the only time it will be screened, so, if you go let us know about it.

I went!

In town for graduation & the lax game, so I went. One of my buddies was also involved in another of the student films that was shown, so I kinda had to go. It was good! I’m obviously not a movie reviewer, so I can’t go into any greater detail than that. Good footage of the Rutgers game (IMO the highlight of last season), and some pretty decent insight into a very driven young man. Greg’s dad explaining that he wanted all of his sons to “either be point guards or quarterbacks” because they’re leadership positions tells you a lot. By that point the movie had also featured a few comments from teammates commenting on his leadership abilities. That aspect of Paulus, as well as his refusal to listen to anyone that says he “can’t” do this or that were the main takeaways (be it play for Duke, play college football, or play in the NFL). I don’t think this is the only chance to see the movie though, since the credits listed someone with “Poster/DVD Design” (sorry, I forget their name) which makes me think there will at least be a DVD available. IIIRC, the program listed it at under a half hour (didn’t keep the program tho), but I swear it was longer than that.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
