Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - One of the most notorious figures in SU sports history will be returning to the Salt City on Wednesday, June 30. This time, however, legendary former Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. will be honored rather than booed when Temple Adath Yeshurun presents him with the 2010 National Citizen of the Year Award.
The event will begin with a "meet and greet" at 5 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception and dinner.
Thompson holds the Big East record for conference championships, with seven regular season titles and six tournament titles. Thompson was named conference coach of the year on three occasions and was selected for numerous national honors during his coaching career.
