So I've been gone a few days and missed most of the snowball-gate discussion. Now that I'm caught up, and just saw that article on syracuse.com, I'm pretty pissed off by the whole thing and everyone involved. So let me begin with the airing of grievances...then I'll move on with my life. Honest to God I will.
Delone Carter - You f%$^ing moron. You let me down big time, man. No, I don't think you should just sit back and take it when people hurl shit at your car, but you don't go around punching people because they pissed you off. Hell, save it for when we play Rutgers next season. You were set up for a big season and now you might not make it back to campus for camp in August (or ever). Bottom line is you freakin blew it, dude.
William Hoataling - You are such a phony. I don't care what you did or didn't do. Logic and past experience tell me you're FoS and will milk this for all its worth. Normal people don't go around cold-cocking other people that are simply minding their own business, just because they can, which according to your story is exactly what happened. I also know that when I was in college, when doing stupid shit was a regular occurance, I owned up to it and figured, "hell, I guess I had that one coming" if I got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time doing the wrong thing. So own up to whatever it was that you did (however small or stupid it may be) to get punched, then grow up and grow a pair. Post it on facebook or make a website about it, since that's what you seem to be good at.
SPD - Cuffs? 6 weeks later? So you really believed Carter and Gillum were a flight risk. Right. You think you would've had to look very far for them if that was the case? You think that coach Marrone kept those type of hooligans (edit: the type that evade the police) on his team with all the recent defections? This wasn't a homicide, rape or anything that would warrant them to act in such a manner. So I guess the real reason was to intimidate the two enough so that one would admit guilt or blame the other, which is exactly what happened. So congrats for that, lying to the papers and for making yourselves look like asses in the process for taking so long to put it together. Hope you can put the pieces together quicker on the next serial-puncher case on the hill.
Ryan Gillum - Ok, I'm actually glad you told the truth and didn't lie to the cops (as far as we know anyways). Honest to God. But I hope you at least gave your teammate the dignity of letting him know you'd rat him out before the police take you down first. Then again, Hoataling must've gone down pretty hard. Not sure I'd be hanging out with DC much after watching that.
SU - Guilty until proven innocent I guess, huh? So on the outside chance that maybe Delone didn't do it, or that this is some sort of fabrication or exaggeration by Hoataling, you figure you're better off by suspending the accused student athlete who has no previous record of any wrongdoing, and completely deny him even the chance to graduate on time. You know Coach M isn't going to let this go unpunished. So why not let Delone continue to go to class like a normal student for now? Because if you're wrong about him, you seriously just f'ed up his education and possibly his football career by flipping him from campus prematurely. Way to jump the gun. Think about the message this sends to other student athletes, or potential recruits? Hell, even Devo was allowed to get his diploma.
In the end, no one is going to win here, certainly not us fans. We seriously cannot afford to lose another talented player, even at RB where we are fairly deep. That being said, I hope Antwon Bailey got all his shenanigans out of his system last year, because it looks like he'll be at the top of the depth chart next season.
