"Coach Marrone is a fair guy...That’s the best way to put it. He treats everybody the same. There’s no wavering in him. You do the right things, you don’t have to worry. He has high expectations. He wants us, as men, to rise up, take on pressures and overcome them. He wants to make us better players, and better human beings in the long run.

"The guys who aren’t here are weak-minded. They don’t want to rise to the expectations of Syracuse football. They don’t understand the history, the tradition, of Syracuse football. They don’t care about No. 44 and what it means. We’re doing better without them and we’re going to keep doing better without them."

I appreciate the sentiment

But that’s a little bull-hokey to me.

If he’s talking about DC3, he’s too harsh. Sure, DC3 HAS to be the bigger man and rise above snowballs hurled at him, no doubt – and Collier has to think about moving on and focusing on his job.

But he’s also DC3’s team-mate. Maybe a little sympathy/ camaraderie/ wait till he also knows the facts before introducing DC3 to the bottom of the bus?

Whatever, fella.

I was wondering the same thing.

But I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the guys that have left the team over the last 2 years since HCDM came on the scene. It’s just timed in a way that sounds like he could be talking about DC3.

At least that’s what I hope happened. I agree that, as much as I think DC3 deserves whatever is coming to him, he still deserves the support of his teammates.

also

and arent football players always crowing about their “brotherhood” and trench mentality?

seems more like trench-coat mentality to me – IF he’s talking about DC3.

but you’re right, the timing makes it seem that way and i could be reading way too much into this. he could very well have been talking about mike williams.

but even in some other cases, all 21 or however many have quit since HCDM came on board; can not be lumped in the mike williams category.

unfair – as we dont know all the info for their reasons so, what with HCDM not talking about past players [rightfully so – its his prerogative].

My respect for Collier just got even higher.

I don’t think it was a direct dig at Delone. I think it’s aimed more at the Mike Williamses and Meles who have wimped out.

Go, fight, and win.

One of the key contests in Syracuse's march to the national championship in 1959 was a titanic clash with unbeaten Penn State on Nov. 7, 1959 in University Park, PA. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 7 and the Orangemen No. 4.

The 20-18 victory propelled Syracuse to the No. 1 in both the AP and UPI polls which they held for the remainder of the season to claim the consensus National Championship. This is the Universal Newsreel account of that contest.
