I am warming up to this idea.
First, this really benefits the Big East. With 16 teams (for now), the odds of getting more than 8 teams into a 65-team tourney were always slim. With 96-teams... we can probably go as high as 10-11.
Second, with increased chances of making the Big Dance, perhaps JB can loosen up a bit on playing the reserves. It's hard to justify playing inferior players when a 10-8 BE record can be "not good enough."
Third, without having to do so much to separate ourselves from the pack, perhaps we can focus on doing the things that create success in the Big Dance. Ideally... cutting down on turnovers and improving our halfcourt offense. Much like playoff football and baseball changes... the Big Dance is a slower game.
Not happy with the inevitable change, but perhaps it will help Syracuse.
