The Worst No-Name Syracuse Killers

In light of Louisville's answer to Rudy, Kyle Kuric, destroying Syracuse in the second half of today's game, I am compelled to finally address the issue of how many no-name, quirky players have career days against Syracuse. It seems like every single game, some guy on the other team has a career high and plays out of his mind—or at least very unexpectedly well. I want to see how many of these dudes we can come up with. They aren't the great players who have torched the 'Cuse—you expect Scottie Reynolds to score 90 points. We're looking for the weirdest and most embarrassing guys who have gone bonkers against Syracuse. (Doesn't necessarily have to be in a loss but that's usually how these things go.)

Consider this an open thread to brainstorm these players. I'll start off with a few I can remember from this year and the past off the top of my head. Stats are optional; if the game was significant we'll all remember the name.

  • Kyle Kuric, Louisville - 22 points in the second half, averages 3!
  • Mike Marra (aka Devendorf South), the first 2010 Louisville game - 12—all threes, natch
  • Mouphtaou Yarou, 2010 Villanova - 13 points, career high (though we'll probably see more of him)
  • Chris Hill, Michigan State, 2002-03 - 10 threes, but the 2003 team handled it
  • Brendan Plavich, Charlotte, 2003-04 - 10 threes at the Dome, and the 2004 team did not handle it
  • Quincy Douby, Rutgers - that crazy overtime game where Terrence Roberts hit the game-winning three; Douby had about 41 points?
  • Kevin Bettencourt, Bucknell
  • Germain Mopa-Nigila (whatever), Vermont, 2005 - duh

There are TONS more and I am blanking right now... how many can you remember?

What about Sorrentine from Vermont?

He hit that big dagger three

GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!

You forgot some

Colin Falls-Notre Dame. Slaughtered us in 2006? I remember we lost like 110-90 in the dome. At the time it was the most given up in the dome.

The Georgetown Russian…Transferred this year. Went into the game last year, made 3 3’s, benched for the rest of his career, and then transferred. He won’t ever be seen again.

Kosta Koufas-Ohio State. 24 points as a center, most of them from behind the arc in NYC for the preseason NIT. Went to the NBA after his freshman season never to be heard from again.

Kyle McAlarney- Notre Dame. Seems like every game he scored 30 against us. He did officially once @ Notre Dame when we wore those blue unis.

Depaul 2006- The entire team. From there we’ve seen them lose all their Big East games, and only win once this year. Nuff said.

That little white kid from LeMoyne

Little white kids (or in the case of Louisville, bigger white kids) seem to give us an inordinate amount of trouble.

Darius Lane

Those other guys only did it once. This fucker did it every fucking time we faced Seton Hall.

hated that guy

That guy single-handedly ruined our 19-0 start in 2000….

Oh wait, it's no-namers.

Antonion Pena probably won’t make a name for himself; he always gets on my nerves.

Tony Crocker for Oklahoma was the no-name killer that game, didn’t he have a career high 28 points against SU that day?

by stumpycuse on Mar 7, 2010 10:30 AM EST up reply actions

Douby was not a no-namer. He averaged 25 ppg his senior yr (the year he dropped 41 on SU). He had 8 games of 30 plus points that year. He was far from a no-namer. He also has had some time in the NBA.

You're absolutely right

but I give him some street cred in terms of no-namers because 1) he played for Rutgers, and 2) he has a funny name haha

...it's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

I'll go back a little further

Cant give you the exact stats but remember Nimbo Harris from GW upsetting us in the Dome in ‘94. It was the season opener in Moten’s SR year

Kwame Evans had a career high 29 in that game.

Nimbo Hammons has 22, not a career high.

On the "glass half full" side...

we do prevent teams from having their best player beat us. Sometimes, a no-name steps up and does the job. Quite often, the no-name does not.

Still… feel free to really get out there on him Wes. Teams are going to attack his side defensively.

That Sally guy

on Memphis gave us trouble the last few years. Luckily we didn’t let him win.

You joined this site

to post that video, twice? You don’t even have anything clever or taunting to say? I want my trolls to be huge douches, dammit! Don’t let us down!

One came to me this morning...

Some lady on NPR was a law professor from Cleveland State, which brings back memories of Cedric Jackson… ::shudder::
