I hate Louisville

But you don't think they have done that?

L’ville is one of the few teams that can actually execute the plan against us…

Louisville can only shoot three’s they have not gotten a single shot in the paint yet.

Can you get an offensive foul without actually touching the kid?

Louisville: 3-16 from three point land. Im telling you all they can do is shoot threes

by Matthew Scott on Mar 6, 2010 2:30 PM EST reply actions

I’m good with that. Just so long as making threes is not one of the things they do.

Some day I wish someone would make the point to some announcer about the fact that Syracuse “allowing” a large amount of three pointers is kind of a goal of our defense.

If he thinks they are taking good shots, perhaps they will keep taking them.

Color me confused for a sec

But I saw the women play Providence today at 2PM, but in the schedule they still face UConn regardless of the outcome. Did they play the game this morning and just didn’t update it?

by RyanMcD29 on Mar 6, 2010 2:55 PM EST reply actions

They are currently tied with 1 minute left in the first. UConn is listed on the schedule because they have a bye so if SU wins, they will play UConn.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

lmao we lose no matter!!!!!

by Matthew Scott on Mar 6, 2010 2:59 PM EST up reply actions

yup let try that again “lmao we lose no matter what!!!!!!!” yeah my brain was thinking ahead of where my fingers were typing my bad.

by Matthew Scott on Mar 6, 2010 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

I chalk it up to 1 of 2 things

1) beer, or
2) lack of beer

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 6, 2010 3:07 PM EST up reply actions

Guess it is lack of beer, then.

I am chalking all of my problems up to the red eye I took this morning.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

ummmmmmmmm this is not a good way to start the 2nd half

How was that not a foul on the rebound?

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:16 PM EST reply actions

That was fucking nasty Wes.

Those standings had SU’s record at 20-2….weird

by Matthew Ventolo on Mar 6, 2010 3:18 PM EST reply actions

Apparently SU is again the odds on favorite to win the BET. No idea when the last time it was that they were the odds on favorite.

And no way will a team that has to play four games win the BET. This person needs to look up his SU tournament history.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:19 PM EST reply actions

i doubt a team will win 5 games to win the BET anytime soon

but 4 isn’t really that unexpected. i think a couple teams have done it now (SU was the first)

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 6, 2010 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

SU and pitt at least.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

we've got ta be careful

eventually the defenders are going to set up in time for these to be charges

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 6, 2010 3:19 PM EST reply actions

what is Andy thinking today. He is taking terrible shots.

by Matthew Scott on Mar 6, 2010 3:24 PM EST reply actions

We are getting raped on every rebound.

Apparently only Syracuse commits rebounding fouls.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:24 PM EST reply actions

I think that was actually an over the back

Not saying Louisville hasn’t been doing a lot of it and getting away with it, though.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

by FatK44 on Mar 6, 2010 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

It was absolutely over the back. That is far from my point. It was the same over the back that Louisville has been committing all game.

by Orange22 on Mar 6, 2010 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

exactly

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 6, 2010 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

If you care about the team—big picture—you would have hoped to see Wes get healthy.

I love J.B., but he blew this one big time.

How can this team not doubt itself a little bit?

by ezcuse on Mar 6, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

doubt, or added motivation? this team has done nothing but respond to adversity. I trust the team and our coaches.

by FirmKick on Mar 6, 2010 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

If I care about this team- big picture- I would watch every game on TV, I would sleep outside for seats, I would sit in the front row of every game, I would make plans to attend the Big East tournament, the first round of the NCAAs, and the final four if we make it. And I’d leaving the coaching to the hall of fame coach.

But I get that the two of you have decided you have some epic axe to grind about all of this. That’s super fun for you. Up your dosage.

And I’ll be at the BET & the NCAA games in Buffalo as well.

Syracuse players have a lot of length.

by MrPlow99 on Mar 6, 2010 5:31 PM EST up reply actions

I do trust the coaches

That doesn’t mean he did not make a mistake.

Wes is just a shell of himself right now. Missing close shots. Unwilling or ineffective at three point shots. Erratic with rebounds in traffic today. Getting rejected. Slow to respond on defense to several shots…. barely getting his hands above eye level.

For what? To win THIS game? A meaningless game?

What’s done is done.

by ezcuse on Mar 6, 2010 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

Whoa

Axe to grind? I wish Southerland and Riley had played today, especially since playing our starters did no good. That doesn’t mean I have an axe to grind.

Boeheim deserves coach of the year and still forgets more about basketball in a day that I will ever know. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to an opinion.

I merely expressed the opinion that if we were going to lose, it would have been great to get our depth some experience. You were the one who attacked me and ezcuse just for saying that.

GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!

When you start saying something before the game and continue saying it over and over and over again in both this thread and the other one, it sure looks like you have an axe to grind.

And I didn’t “attack you and ezcuse just for saying that”. I took issue with ezcuse for saying that anyone who didn’t agree with his position was a “fair weather fan” and didn’t care about this team in the big picture. So that isn’t merely expressing an opinion. You can’t possibly see how that comes across as a) ridiculous b) obnoxious and c) like you have an axe to grind?

this is what i said about the valentine's day game..

this game might have been just too much to win with as much as louisville had on the line.. but i’m still seeing some simple repeated problems (LIKE HOLDING ON TO LOOSE BALLS) that keep leading us into closer games than we should be in or even getting blown out in the end by fn pitino & louisville..

but i hope you’re right..

i really hope some of last months ups and downs settle..

if the whole team is on and playing as one, it would take a great basketball team to keep up.. but improved shot selection, holding on to key boards (including but not limited to BOXOUT AT THE LINE!), and not letting a hot 3pt shooter get open shots.. all will be important to key in on as this month of months progresses..

At worst, we’re gonna be 4th next week. And barring a huge run by Duke or Kansas State in their conference tourneys and we win a Big East tourney game, we’re a 1 seed. Yes this loss sucked but it only hurts us a little in the grand scheme of things in terms of where we’re seeded in the tournament.

In a feeble attempt to think positive

Andy had a terrible shooting game, KrisJo didn’t play that much or at all well when he did, we had a terrible free throw shooting day (sub par even for us)… Even though Wes put in 18 I got the idea that his hand was really bothering them (dropping a lot more balls than normal, etc.). Triche has been off lately (although he was starting to look aggressive at the end of this game). The reffing was not favorable, this was probably going to be the last men’s game in Freedom Hall, and who knows what Boeheim is going to do better than a guy who has been his assistant coach in the past?

This was the perfect storm of bad things, if you will. We can use this loss to get refocused. We can get some rest, and come back as the team that gets 10 wins in between losses.

Other people look, Andy Rautins can SEE.

I just think

The loss was a missed opportunity. How many truly meaningless games do you get in the NCAA? We can’t go into the tournament with a 7 man rotation. Against a team like Kansas it’s going to hurt us. This owuld have been a great chance to see what we ahve.

IF we were going to lose anyway, why not lose with some of your less experienced players?

by tanman5 on Mar 6, 2010 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

interesting idea..

if it wasn’t for the fact that it feels like wes really just came back last week and keeping the chemistry in some of those key lineups and having them play together more often is only going to help..

about the rotation.. i trust coach but it does feel like the short rotation could hurt us when we’re going deep.. it’s also hard to figure whose minutes i would want to take away and give to one of those possible 8th men short of a necessity..

You're not going to get RIley ready in time

no matter how many minutes you get him in the BET, it’s too late in the season to expect anything meaningful out of him.

Maybe if they worked him in more from the start of the BE season I would agree with you, but this 7 man squad is all we got this year.

GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!

by tanman5 on Mar 7, 2010 2:00 PM EST up reply actions

Hey, we need a little luck, and get on a little hot streak

The 1987, 1996 and even the 2003 all had that. Hell almost every tourney champ team had it. We’re not a perfect, dominate squad. We get probably out-maned, 1-1, against the bigger teams at most positions.

We need to play the fast, team game that we have most of the year, get a little hot, cut down the turnovers, and when opportunities present themselves, SMASH THEM.

I refuse to believe that just because we are only 7 deep does that mean we are automatically excluded from the title. Vegas has us at 7-2 odds even with Kentucky and a little behind Kansas. Gotta say, that feels about right. Keep the orange faith brother.

Go Orange(men)!

by SUmonkey on Mar 7, 2010 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

Thoughts

Andy was launching some 3s that would have been deep if it was an NBA game. He pretty much disappeared. The bigs couldn’t hold onto the ball. Johnson seemed…off. Scoop was the only player that showed up to play.

I think KrisJo’s knee was bugging him more than we know and Jim wanted to give him some rest. Also, I have a feeling that Johnson’s hand isn’t going to get better any time soon but that the pain is manageable enough so they’re just going to play things out and keep treating it. Sure, Southerland and Riley didn’t play at all, but they haven’t played all year – why bother now? You go with the guys that got you there. Sure you could plug them into the game for 5-10 minutes, but is that really going to make a huge difference at this point? No.

I think that Jim was sending a statement to the players. If you don’t show up to play defense, then you’re going to lose. And he made sure of it – no pressure at the very end, no fouling, nothing. The players didn’t show up to play and he wanted them to taste their own blood so they never get hit in the mouth again.

by DMF on Mar 6, 2010 6:15 PM EST reply actions

In a meaningless game

Why not play Southerland or Riley?

The guys that got you there are the 7, no doubt about it. But you have to be prepared for the worst case scenario. What if Onuaku and Jackson get in foul trouble against Cole Aldrich? Are we going to put Wes Johnson at center? Riley needs to be an option. He doesn’t have to be great, but he at least has to be passable.
