Cutler'd: SU Starting FB Tears ACL
Good news is, no one quit the Syracuse football team today (so far).
Bad news is, we still lost someone. First-string fullback Carl Cutler, to be exact. Carl tore his left anterior cruciate ligament which will require surgery.
SU is already paper thin at fullback so we'll see how this affects the roster and depth chart. Shane Kimmel takes the mantle for now, with Robert Nieves behind him.
The school says that Cutler's status for the 2010 season will be re-evaluated over the summer. Call me crazy but, based on what we already know about torn ACLs and recovery time (we have experience), isn't it pretty fair to say his season is over? We'll wait and see, I suppose.

Something seems fishy.
I think Cutler actually told Marrone he was quitting the team. Fed up with having to announce player after player as quitting, Marrone willed this kid’s ACL to tear and announced that instead.
If you don’t think HCDM can tear an ACL with sheer will then you obviously haven’t been paying attention.
It’s either that, or Marrone put the kid’s knee in a thigh lock and tore the ACL that way. Those are your only two options. I’m not buying this “happened in practice” crap.
Damn you
You beat me to it – I immediately tried to think of some way to explain how Doug Marrone’s thighs are responsible. I already have my sprained neck injury joke ready, and it goes, “So and so sprained his neck because Ridiculously Good Looking Charley Loeb walked by, and so and so did a double take so hard that he hurt his neck.” Yeah, I know, it takes too long to reach the punchline and now I’ve ruined it…but still.

But now that the jokes out there, it's yours.
And anyone else who makes it once that sprained neck injury comes along is just a joke stealer!
It’s like licking your food to claim it. You’ve licked Charlie Loeb…his joke. A joke about him. You’ve licked a joke about him and claimed it as yours. Wow, I just get flustered whenever someone brings up his name.
I also probably think too much about Doug Marrone’s thighs.
Everyone is (h) when it comes to Charley "Ridiculously Good Looking" Loeb and Doug Marrone's Thighs.
Don’t deny it. Don’t fight it. We all feel it.
Also
I think our football team is cursed.

It depends on what else he did
I had ACL surgery in mid-December. If he didn’t tear anything else and it’s just the ACL, then he could be fully recovered in 6 months. That’s mid-September. He’ll probably be able to start running on it likely in 3-4 months, so he can keep his endurance up. But it’ll be the stability and cutting he’ll have to wait and see on, and that’ll be the big question. But it’s definitely not out of the question we could see Cutler on the field in October. Everyone’s different, but if all goes well, he might not be out for 2010.
