Was Gonzaga really underseeded?

PrintI realize they were ranked so an eight seed would seem low, but looking at their resume it looked like they were overrated by the polls rather than underrated by the tournament committee.
Their six losses:
Michigan State, a 5 seed.
Wake Forest, a 9 seed.
Duke, a 1 seed, but they got absolutely destroyed in this game 76-41.
San Francisco, 12-18 in the West Coast Conference.
Loyola Marymount, 18-16.
And a thumping by St. Mary's, a 10 seed.
Their best win, by far, is over Wisconsin. Nothing else really jumps, in fact their only other win over a tournament team was over the aforementioned St. Mary's.
An 8-seed doesn't seem that ridiculous to me.

Gonzaga
is one of those Georgetown-type teams. They’ll show up some days and destroy you, and other days they won’t show up at all.
They are more similar to GT than just that
They way they play, the lack of bench scoring, very, very similar to GT

Bol Kong… fits the bill for the guy who will knock down a surprising number of three-pointers today… giving us fans headaches.
I think the key to the game is RJ staying out of foul trouble though. Not exactly a reach of a comment there, I suppose.
Did Jon Leuer even play when Gonzaga beat Wisco
That’s still a good win, but not as good since Wisco is much better with Leuer

They Were Overseeded
Their name recognition got them an 8 seed. This exact resume gets them a double-digit seed 10 years ago.

Gonzaga should have been a 12 seed and Cornell an 8 seed.
Leuer scored 18 w/ 5 boards against Gonzaga. He scored 14 w/ 2 boards against Cornell.
Hindsight being 20/20, you're right
But teams match up so different, and guys have off nights, so you can’t really make that call based on one guy’s performance against each team.
...it's the most bullshit thing I've seen in thirty years.

Wasn't using Leuer's performance as a justification.
Just included it as a response to tanman5 above. Even Calipari thinks Cornell should have been a 4 seed.
